Dealer told me synthetic oil not recommended

I recently took my 04 coupe to a dealer for service. The dealer saw that I used Pennzoil synthetic oil in my engine and told me Infiniti actually don't recommend synthetic for G35 engines because it's too thin. Any comments?

Every dealership in my area told me the same thing. That's 3 of them. None, to my knowledge, know of g35driver.com.

Synthetic yes....Pennzoil NFW....!

The very best thing you can do for your engine is use synthetic oil and a
quality filter. The Stealership would love to sell you a new motor because
the old one died of gooooo. One other point, I wouldn't use any Pennzoil
products even in my lawnmower. Mobil 1....Royal Purple or my favorite Red Line synthetic only!

^ the owner's manual says the same thing. i questioned my dealer one time on why they offered synth oil changes when the manual says synth is not to be used in the VQ35. they had no legitimate response, probably because they had no idea what they were talking about.

regardless, i started using it about a year ago. if it works for all the hi-po engines out there, it stands to reason that we should be fine.

Why would you assume a service writer [shop commissioned salesman] knows anything about engines? Dealerships are lucky to get a certified master technican and maybe a somewhat educated service manager.

None of these employees are qualified to discuss tribology nor are they graduate automotive engineers.
