Problem with AT! Please Help!
Whats up to all! I have a 2004 G35 coupe. It has 51k miles on it. Its driven like a dream until yesterday. I was driving and peeled out of driveway w/o traction control. Immediately after the car would not shift out of 1st gear. I would push the pedal and nothing just rev. I turned the car off for a minute and started it. The AT didnt respond very well after that. About 30 min later the car got stuck in like 2nd or 3rd gear. I would try to accelerate but to no avail it would just rev and not go faster than like 35 mph. Plus when I shifted to tiptronic mode it wouldnt let me shift gears. Has anyone had this problem or can tell me what may have cause this. Any feedback would be valuable! THanks!
Not sure, but maybe a few Q&A might help.
Any lights ON in the instrument panel?
What da hell did you do the day before?
Any mods?
Not sure if the car is in limp mode but sounds like it.

Thanks for your responses. Theres no indicator lights on. Didnt have any problems prior. The day before I took it on a 140 mi. road trip. Then the same day of the problem i drove it 300 miles on highway before it started acting up. The following day after it messed up I didnt have any problems with the transmission. Drove back to town just fine. I didnt push it hard tho. No mods. I dont however think its had any transmission service.

Disconnect the battery over night. Check the fluid in the transmission (do this after it has been driven and is still warm). You'll need a 10mm socket for this and it's located on the passanger side of the engine bay next to the firewall, just behind the plenum - it may have a cap over the top you need to take off 1st.
Be sure the fluid is where it should be and that it is a pink/red color. Also check to see if it has a burnt smell. The dealer will be able to able to read the codes in the TCM (transmission control module), they should read the codes for free, just to give you an idea of what's going on.
If the car has never had the transmission serviced then you should have the fluid changed. Do not flush it. Start with just changing it first. If you can do this yourself, I'd suggest just draining maybe a quart or two and then filling t back up wth fresh, then after 2 or 3 thousand miles do the same thing again. This way you aren't just replacing the old fluid with new. The lubricated parts of the tranny have already soaked up the old dirty fluid and, over time, have gotten used to it's ever changing lubricating properties. By putting in all brand new fluid the transmission will have an issue adjusting back to the new lubricating properties as it soaks into the clutch packs and other moving parts.
Have you ever noticed the transmission slipping? Were you in MM or Drive when you peeled out?

A dealer reading codes for free.......that just cracks me up as the stealership does nothing for free. They are aholes and nothing more..............also i am in the auto repair business.....just not at a dealer.

Thanks HomieG35. Im not quite sure what MM mode is but I was in regular drive mode when I peeled out. It has never slipped before. I drove it normally today without any problems. Im afraid to really punch tho it in case theres an internal problem. I dont want that to get any worse. Im gonna do as you advise and diconnect the battery and check the fluid in the morning.
are you still covered under warranty? Take it to the dealer and have them check it out? If no warranty take it to them either way unless there's a Nissan/VQ Specialist near by.

MM means manualmatic or the sport shift, but definitely get it checked to see if there is any code.
