Okay - no more razzing... I guess I'm itchen to get back to performance... I'm tiered of the aesthetic stuff

I like summer... but actually cant wait for fall and winter to get some good track temps!

I'm looking into BC coilovers so I can get off the drag strip and try road racing and autocross... I read that you are using BC - you havent responded in that thread - so instead of going off topic here, get your @ss in there and respond please

If you see an NA sedan running 13s, I guarantee its in cold weather and at very low altitude (or the ET is bogus and the time slip is from a different car).

No NA sedan has run 13s in So Cal – not because they aren’t high 13 second cars (we have some fast sedans), its because we have sh!tty tracks with high elevation and very few days of cold weather…

So next time you see a post or sig with 13.xx don’t bother comparing unless he did it at your track.
Everyone stop and listen to him. He speaks the truth.

IMO, under sea level conditions, a 5AT RWD sedan is good for 14.3-14.4s assuming you know how to launch the car and select the correct shift points and hold 3rd gear through the run. To get into the mid 13s in good air, is going to take some serious work. Honestly, you'd be better served selling the car for a 6MT and buying a set of 26" slicks and you'll be at 13.7s easily. To get into the 13.8-14.0 range with a 5AT can be done with a spacer, z-tube, midpipe, and an ECU flash. I hope to be in the 13.9-14.0@100-101mph range with a TS ecu flash, HFCs, MD 5/16" spacer, 05 midpipe, and z-tube. My 03 did low 14.3s@98mph with a z-tube in 300' air and high 14.3s at almost 100mph in 1500' air with the spacer.

^ as dave says, getting into the mid-13's in a 5at requires more than just intake/exhaust mods.

my 6mt recently ran 14.4 at ~98mph. i have insignificant mods, but i am confident i could see low to mid-14.3's with the current set-up. the stock gearing of the 6mt works well. at the 1/4 mile mark i am just under redline (by ~500rpm) in 4th gear.

What track did you run at? I ran at Mission race way in May and did a 14.1 @100mph with my 6spd sedan and a K&N drop in. Just got to get it off the line well, I was getting 2.0 60ft's with my 225/55R17 street tires.

I have got a lot of seat time though in a much faster car.

^ i ran at mission as well. in june, very hot day (air temp ~30 C). my 60' was 2.1. we have similar set ups so your times give me hope. street tires as in my sig.

getting off the line was my problem - i had slippage/axle hop through 1st gear, and occasionally in to 2nd. this was the first time with the G at a strip so my expectations weren't high.

It's quite embarrassing times for a RWD sedan with a 6 speed since a N/A 4th gen Maxima can run 12's with boltons with some weight reduction and slicks. But of course a G35 has a lot more potential.

on the right track with weight reduction and slicks a G can do that too...

The majority of us like to run based on what the car will do on the street.

I crack up when I read about what guys do to lower their ET on the track... then I think to myself *I can still beat you to the freeway onramp

True, but there are a lot of things to consider and it's pretty much apples to oranges. I use to own a loaded 96 Maxima 5MT with the MEVI, JWT ECU, y-pipe and lots of other suspension/body tweaks. With no weight reduction other than the spare removed and the 20lb light aftermarket y-pipe, the car weighed 2,900lbs or roughly 420lbs less than my G35. The Maxima did 14.3s@100mph which is right in line with what my 5AT G is going with the spacer.

Those 12-second 4th gen Maximas have some weight reduction (many in the 2,700-2,800lb range), but more importantly, nearly all of them have VQ35 swaps (VQ30 is OEM). I believe one guy has a VQ30 4th gen running 12s, but he has cams, VQ30DEK intake manifold swap, standalone ECU, head work, and the typical bolt-ons. I believe he's blown 1 to 2 VQ30s in the process too. Swapping in the VQ35 with headers instantly adds about 35whp/30wtq with a fat powerband. It's a killer setup, but most people aren't willing to swap motors to get into the 12s. Those 12-second 4th gens are also run on some of the quicker tracks in the US including the Northeast and Canada. It does make a difference.

To get a G35 into the 12s is very possible assuming you're willing to get all the bolt-ons (I/H/HFC/E/tuning) plus slicks, a quick track, and prayer.

The 4th gen Maxima can be a total sleeper with the VQ35 swap. However, the G is far better package in terms of overall performance.
