Oil consumption if switching from dino to syn

Hi... I have an 06 g35 6mt that gets about 2600 miles/quart (5W30) using non-synthetic oil... I have 20,000 miles on the car now... I've been thinking about switching to synthetic oil... Should I switch??? Pros/cons?? If I do so, will my oil consumption get worse??? I've heard that it might... Any feedback would be much appreciated... thanks... bob...

I'd switch. I switched at 15,000 mi. Can't say I saw increased consumption but since I did my own changes I thought my oil was a little low, which prompted me to do the oil consumption test. Went to two dealers for two tests and both said I was OK (although the very first check up showed me I was low). So now I'm back to changing my own oil and I'll be putting in Mobil 1 5W30 this weekend.

I went from dino to syn (M1) at 10K and I use about a 1/2 quart every 7500 miles.

go to the dealer and ask for a new engine if you're under 70k. I've been on synthetic since 100miles and i've always used about 1qt in 7500 miles.

I've always wondered about this as well.

I switched to synthetic around 10k and never noticed any consumption before then. From about 30k on, the car started using about 1qt every 2500 miles, but has remained perfectly steady at that mark. I always wonder what would have happened if I had stuck with dino oil. I guess I'll never know!

BTW, I am in an 04 6MT

I switched at 10K to M1 5W30 and have had no issues. I did have an old Honda 550-4 murdercycle back in 1978. It was almost perfect except for the horrible noise that came from the cam chain (normal). It NEVER dripped a drop of oil. I changed to Amsoil and over night I had oil coming out of EVERY GASKET ON THAT BIKE. It was horrible.

I want to switch back to dino, simply for the fact that there is no reason to use syn....when my warranty is about to run out however, I will switch back to syn and milk the oil consumption issue for a new motor.

How do you think switching back & forth between dino & syn will help you "milk" the oil consumption issue?

I don't like running synthetic because of the cost, its unnecessary, and the engine seems to run rougher/ less smooth with syn. Later on when my warranty is running out, I will switch back to synthetic since it tends to burn better/faster and then get a new engine under warranty(unless the dino oil is already burning fast enough).
