blown motor

about a month ago i had infiniti of massapequa do an oil change on my car.yesterday i was driving home from work and my engine seized. i had it towed to the dealer and they are refusing to take responsibility for it. there is no way my car burned 5 quarts of oil in a month, and since the car has 74k on it they dont want to warranty it. they claim that the only way they might cover it is if i can produce receipts for oil changes for every 3k miles since i had the car which thats almost imposible since i did most of them. infiniti did the last oil change and most likely did not do the job correct, now they are telling me is going to cost me well over 10k to fix it. should i get a lawer and call infiniti of north america. the car is my baby and i never slacked on her. i need advise please.

Your warranty and a reasonable court would require that you check your oil level frequently. It is stated that owner is responsible to maintain fluid levels................even if the engine uses or leaks oil you must keep it full.

Self changing oil is almost impossible to prove without legal witnesses, why Nissan requires written change receipts with VIN, mileage, date, and a signature of the business.

You should see the number of faked non compliant receipts they get every month.

Wow that sucks. Warranty should cover it due to the fact they you have one. If the warranty company can not prove that you not having enough fluids in the car then they dont have a leg to stand on

Worst case you'll just need to buy another longblock.

Although the above is a valid observation, infiniti cannot alone deny a warranty claim on lack of maintenance done "at home" or wherever. If a vehicle has been maintained improperly, a simple inspection will reveal the abuse. Additionally, most owners usually keep receipts and small records as to when services were performed.

I've always done my own maintenance and I haven't been denied warranty service a single time, not even for replacing both valve covers at 60k.

i just got a phone call from infiniti of north america and they claim that the service manager found slush in my motor, which its a lie when i use mobil 1 synthetic oil every 3 k miles. i took my personal mechanic there and he has the snap on camera that detecs slush and no slush in the motor. there is no way i went thru 5 quarts of oil in a month. the reason the engine blew up is because one of their mechanics ****ed up. every 3 k miles i always added a half of quart of oil not 5quarts. but unfortuanetly infiniti of n.a are telling me that its my word against theres.

WOW!! This oil consumption thing always scares the crap outta me.

Sorry to hear about that hope everything works out for you.

PS. Shouldn't Infiniti issue a repair order/Recall on this matter??? A whole lot of ppl. have been in this situation.

You mean sludge? how could it be their word against yours? Just have the mechanic pull the pan or a valve cover and take pics of the valvetrain and pan. There would be no "word" to rely on. I think you have them.

Infiniti clearly is trying to justify their claim by saying there is sludge. (and they are counting on you NOT to question their claim by getting your own inspection)

If you can have the mechanic take pics of the engine's internals (use of small camera etc), then you can clearly prove the engine was maintained correctly.

Isnt this Infinitis problem for a faulty engine? Fine i would understand that the owner is responsible for maintaining oil levels correct but not when an engine is burning 5 quarts every 1k. Infiniti KNOWS they have a problem with rev ups burning oil, its been reported and accepted by them. This should be covered under warranty, check out the TSB on oil consumption as well. Dont pay anything out of pocket, they should give you a loaner while they take care of the issue!

If they want to get all technical about it just put it to them this way:
You are responsible for oil changes every 3k right? Infiniti is responsible for replacing oil consuming engines PERIOD. You cant be responsible for a faulty engine. What good is oil you put which will get consumed in no time? Who is paying for the quarts of EXTRA oil you have to put in weekly or bi-weekly? How about your time and monetary loss?

You're in a tight situation. No way is it normal for an engine to consume 5 quarts within 1,000 miles. Not even with the oil consumption issue that the G35's are having. Although I believe there are a handful of members who burned that much.

Was the oil drain bolt loose or something? It's hard to imagine an engine would consume so much oil. Were you driving it hard? Did you check the oil when you got the oil change done by the dealer?

Best of luck to you infinity1.

What ever you do, do NOT give into their BS claims. Makes you wonder how many other people they have done that to.

Just stick in their and use what ever necessary to get them to replace your engine, with a lawsuit being the very last option.

There has been some good advice in this thread. Goodluck!
