Diesel type noise on acceleration (sometimes)

you need to check your fuel damper - it's a device that damps hydraulic pressure variations in the fuel lines, introduced by the fuel pump. i had the same problem, replaced all gaskets in the exhaust (thought i had exhaust leak), ended up taking it to the dealer, and they changed out the fuel damper - and the problem went away.

i think i know exactly what he's talking about.... mine makes a noise like that in situations such as when im in 3rd gear and slow down a little to turn onto another street and dont downshift into 2nd... then if im going too slowly, as soon as i hit the gas it makes a diesel-ish noise for just a second.....
thats if im still going fast enough not to lug the engine, but where 2nd gear would have been a little better coming out of the turn

What octane fuel are you using? Anything less the 91 will cause knocking and/or pinging, even though the G has a sensor to detect early detonation and retards the timing. The sensor detects the knocking by the noise signal - the knocking sound can only happen when knocking starts so the sensor only kicks in after the fact.
Knocking is not good, as you are loading the engine and causing the fuel to detonate before it is supposed to. You can really screw the engine so if you are using 87 or 89, go fill up with 91 or higher ASAP.

It seems G's really don't like low RPM, they fall on their face below 1.5k.
