Castrol Euro formula (German Castrol)

Can anyone tell me why this oil is so highly recommended here? I searched the forums and found it recommended a lot but no one really says why.

Interested in trying something besides Mobil 1 for my next oil change.

UpRev said they recommend Torco.

This is second-hand info, so not guaranteeing its accuracy: but I've read that German Castrol is a "true" synthetic, vs. Mobil 1 is not. Presumably that has ramifications in longevity.

is longevity the only factor that supposedly makes this oil superior? That isn't even an issue for me because even with synthetic oils I get it changed every 3-4k miles.

Note that I'm just guessing it's a longevity problem. There's an oil site you might check out if you're curious, http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

UOA's have shown that oil to work very well in our VQ's internally.
It's harder to find now seems to be the latest I've heard.

Here's a great thread on oils that have been only used in our VQ's.

I'm from Toronto, and the stuff is pretty easy to find. I've used it in my last 3 oil changes.

Yeah it's readily available here at Autozone and PepBoys. I was in Pepboys the other day and they had a ton of it.

Just wondering if I should get it?

GC got some good reviews for being a true (group IV) synthetic when Mobil 1 was being called out as a group III. UOA shows it performs decently. Check the thread linked above for good information.

Personally, I got a better results (via UOA) using Mobil 0W-40.

the main reasons why its highly recommended is beacuae its made from a true base IV synthetic, its viscosity rates better in high and low temps, and it is cheaper than motul/redline/royal purple.

I've run it and also run M1. Not sure how different it is. I know three race teams out here who only run on the track and only use M1. Good enough for me...
