Too many people jump into this game without basic maintenance, and exit early with a broken (driveline/engine/wallet).

My 2004 X picked up 12-15wtq over baseline with this package:

* Motordyne 5/16" copper iso thermal spacer
* UpRev e-tune (send in your AFR logs after each mod)
* HKS Sport muffler
* Blitz SUS power filter (stock size, stock box)

Best run to date: 250.2whp, 262.8wtq

Worst case for performance (20% AWD driveline loss) gives 300hp/315ft-lbs at the crank. Best case (25% loss) gives 312hp/328ft-lbs at the crank.

And for an $18k (used) AWD sedan with $2k of modifications, those gains are not bad at all. I recently worked with UpRev to tweak the maps.. probably due for another dyno run soon.

Exhaust (HFC, etc) is one of the last modifications to make to the VQ in my opinion. These are not high-compression FI systems with too much backpressure looking for a new home. Buy a nice sounding muffler (hard to go wrong with HKS) if you want sound.

I'm sorry, but much of this is wrong too... nothing being discussed (especially in you post) will break your driveline or motor... and I'm not sure where you get your info about HFC but it is a very worth while mod.

+1, IMO HFC will give the majority of exhaust gains.

As usual, this is a false statement. I can actually speak from experience

The gains for $$$ aren't the best, but to say it does nothing on the VQ is definately not true.

notice how the people that actually go to the track and have dyno'd, respond with reality and those that have probably never taken their car to the track or been 100+ or been on a dyno report flase statements

Never said that, chief. I've seen dozens of modified cars (especially imports) with every possible aftermarket mod but fouled plugs, a leaking head/rear main gasket, and differential fluid that looks like mud. Combine that with some yo-yo beating on their newly modified car, and it's a recipe for something major to break loose at high speeds.. just make sure the basics are covered before you start adding on mods.

Just an observation from over 20 years of personal experience building and modifying both N/A and F/I (both roots blown s/c and turbo) cars. On most setups, you don't really appreciate an HFC at low pressure unless the stock design is overly restrictive. And based on what I just read about noise levels after adding an FI HFC (http://www.6mt.net/forum/g35-coupe/2...tions-hfc.html) that might be true.

Do you have a link to a before/after dyno without someone monkeying with the fuel maps in the middle? Difficult to see what effect the HFC had versus "other mods" in most of the dyno posts I've read here.

you need to re-read you post that I replied to - and re-evaluate the HFC application we are referencing.

making the perfect air/ fuel ratio.

I assume after putting high flow cats and other intake exhaust mods it makes the car run rich . SO tunning must help ? right?
