Oil type: 5W-30 or 10W-30

I am about to get an oil change and wondering which grade to go. I live in bay area Northern CA so temperature can get some what hot in summer.
My typical oil change is 3-4k and I use synthetic blend or conventional. So this oil change is probably going to last me this summer till September or so.
In past I have used 5W-30 since I bought the car a few months back from the previous owner.
Any recommendation? I know there is some debate on this already but just want to get feedback for my situation

Thanks!!

Re: Oil type: 5W-30 or 10W-30

5W30 is really only necessary if you (actually your car) experiences subzero temperatures. For climates such as CA and FL, year-round summer, 10W30 is best. I've noticed the manual also recommends 10W40 but I don't know anyone who's used this yet.

Depends on what temperatures the vehicle will be operated in.

FSM says 5w-30. I've used 5w-30 for 15 years + an additive. Works for me in NC.

You will be fine using 5w30 in CA. The viscosity is only different in cold temps, but when the motor is up to temp, everything should be the same.

I used 5w20 in my G for what seemed like forever in CA.

If I remember correctly, you are better with a 40 weight when your motor has high mileage.

That was a fourteen year thread revival. Hot damn.
5w-30 Castrol has treated me well, saw good results with 0w-40 Mobil 1 (I think Euro blend?) as well.

Hey Infinites,

Question, I live in Southern Cali and Im in the middle of doing an oil change on my ride. I thought I bought Pennzoil full synthetic 10w30 but I grabbed 5w20 by mistake. Now oil is already drained from the car.. Do you guys think it's okay to use? Or should I get a ride and go switch it out for 10w30..

Thanks in advance -

I have read one before, thanks for asking. Pat yourself on the back and feel special. The whole forum just jumped up and are going to cheer you on! Plus I know someones gonna come knocking on your door any day now to write that book about you! You got something special. So go ride the short bus now and do something with the endless free time. But thanks, I dont need you to respond to anything I post, because people like you with non exsistent lives, that have nothing else to do at all in life, but hop on to forums and waste minutes writing pointless ****, need not chime in on anything that I may post about.

Thanks anyway though, now go call a party line and get ignored.
