oil consump. dipstick tied down?
so today i took my car to the dealer for an oil change and to start the oil consumption test because i knew it was losing some oil somehow
when i got home i looked under the hood and they had used a zip-tie to secure my dipstick to the intake tube....... anybody else get the same thing?
it makes me a bit suspicious, like maybe they put in some extra

yes heard of this before, one member from ny had his car break down and start leaking all the oil, he popped his hood and found same thing, if your that interested to see if they added oil, make sure you have a replacement zip-tie so you can bring it back with one....
I think it is there as a tamper proof seal. They also have to do something with the oil plug so that you don't drain the oil before your next check up and get a free engine. Hell, I wouldn't be surprise if they lock the cap where you pour the oil in.

Its so u dont suck oil out. jus next time u go in b4 they seal it ask to see where they filled it to b4 they lock it down. dont take **** in the dark like that. and when they check it b there to see it. and make sure they messure it correctly. BTW on other models where the base of the dipstick is more acessible they jus paint it but its nearly impossible on the Gs
they also paint a mark on the oil filter / drain plug and on mine they marked the oil fill cap

If you want to get serious about the locking of the dipstick just call Infiniti Consumer Care. I was very polite but very stern and told them that as long as I have my three year old in the car and the fact that I, my dealer, and Infiniti agree my car is going through this oil consumption test I will be checking my oil weekly to see how much is in the car. No way was I going to put my three year old at risk if my engine seized up on the highway. They agreed with me and didn't lock it down.
Yes, always be with the tech and service manager when measuring and filling the car with oil.
Good luck,

It's normal for some dealers to do that. Mine didn't tho when I went through the OC test, but when I got home found they overfilled me by 1/2qt
Yea...watch them like a hawk and don't trust them as far as you can throw them...
Good point mentioned above with your kid in G.

Use a razor blade or even a small flat head screw driver and unwedge the locking keeper on the zip tie. While keeping the razer blade in place, simply pull apart the zip tie. Put the zip tie on when done. I do this all the time instead of cutting and wasting zip ties.
