No, it has to be tuned. Cobb Accessport and Uprev by Osiris will sne tunes to you and all you have to do is plug them in and flash the ECU.

Yes, just plug it in and follow the directions. Cobb has a hand held device and Uprev uses a laptop. They both have a cable that connect to the OBD2 port under the dash.

In all seriousness, we are talking less the 40 hp for how much? Can they tune it for improved mpg? So there's no way to tune it one way one day, and turn around and tune it a different way the next? That has to be done by a shop. I'm no ASE guru either, so just some curious questions.

The Cobb tuner can hold several tunes at one time and can load one to your car. I am pretty sure this cannot be done while driving, but I cannot say with 100% certainty. The Uprev on the other hand is flashed to your ECU and loads several tunes from fuel economy to an aggressive tune. The Uprev maps can be changed while you are driving and are changed by using the cruise control (the cruise control still works as a cruise control). I would guess no more than 20hp max and they both run around $700. You need a laptop for the Uprev so, if you don't have one, you have to factor that in.

With the Cobb Accessport you will get a general tune for what you have. With the Uprev you have the option of sending a datalog to Osiris and they will send custom tunes to you. Cobb tunes are free and Uprev are free, up to three tunes.

5150DS - Thanks for the continued posts, it's very helpful. I wish I had the cash to drop on something like that, and maybe I will in the future. I wanted to get an idea of what to expect. Who knows, maybe we will get a new "stimulus" check and I'll do my duty to put it back into the economy. Long shot I think, but it's ok to be optimistic. Anyone know, in general, or with a dyno, what to expect, if anything, in horsepower improvements from just putting in a K&N drop-in and a z-tube? Oh, and looking at their website that shows the G35 tube and the z-tube, what are all the other plastic components on the G35 intake that stick out from it, where as the z-tube is just really a "tube". Thanks guys!

You will get lucky to get 1-2 hp from a z tube with K&N, but the sound the tube makes is worth the $. As for the things sticking out, they are baffles and reduce the noise coming from the intake. That is the reason for the z-tube, to free up the intake noise. The K&N is alot of hassle when you clean it for the little if any gains. There is also the possibility of it causing damage to your Mass Air Flow sensor (expensive to replace). I would pass on it and go with the Amsoil Nano filter or stick with stock.

You can get the Osiris Reflash alone without the Cipher and you will save $300 off the top.

Here's my 2 cents. I'm pretty much a believer in Osiris, not only from a horsepower gain standpoint (10-15), but from a safety standpoint. The tuner I worked with says intake mods will lean out the AF mixture to the point where it's dangerous for the engine. My proof is my old spark plugs electrodes were melted off. At this point I only hope my engine wasn't damaged but at least know that potential for damage has been lessened. Anyway, I look at it as an insurance policy with HP gains.

OEM sets programming for a balance between durability [engine life and warranty] and power. You can always reduce engine life and gain 4-7% in peak power output.
The rub occurs if you get a bad tank of gasoline and have removed the factory safety or if you don't maintain [plugs/cleanliness] as new.

Very little can be done to MPG because EPA requires the cruise AF be held to 14.7 for cats to function optimally. Idle MPG is a pure function of displacement and idle rpm.
