how long does it take infiniti to put in a new engine.

Just got my 3rd and final oil level check on my oil consuption test. service manager said i might need a new short block. in 3000 miles i was about 2 qts low on oil. waiting on word from the higher ups at infiniti on the next course of action.

anyone on here get a new engine from infiniti?

if so, how long does it an engine swap at infiniti take?

what did it take to get a new short block?

BTW, would've never thought to take it to the dealership for the oil consumption test if it wasnt for all informative posts on this site. you guys are the shizzle!!!

i used to work as a service manager for infiniti, the short block is not a cheap way out its just the first step in the process. if you still havethe oil consump problem then they may go to the long block.

on the down time it shouldn't be anymore then 2 days. one day to take it out and one day to put it back. make sure they have the block there before you take the car. thats how they should do it anyway but just in case

i also have some pinging. the service guy who checked it out said its octane ping and its normal. i had an induction system cleaning done and the ping is still there. can the pinging be connected with the oil consumption......?

a coworker of mine just had an engine replacement due to OC. he had a brand new long block installed in 2 days at the local Nissan dealer. a long block makes more sense because there is much less assembly required at the shop. i'm sure that's what Nissan would send out to your dealer.

pinging is not likely related to your OC issue. it's a timing/octane/ignition thing. i have it occasionally even after the dealer has checked, re-checked, re-timed, etc...and i always use premium. no OC issues for me.

2 days sounds about right. In the 9 years i've worked at infiniti i've only seen 1 short block get done. All the rest have been long blocks. Its actually cheaper for nissan to do a long block than a short after all the gaskets and such needed for the short.

even though nissan and infiniti are the same company...they work differently. infiniti always( or at least in the 10+ swaps i've seen) with a short block first. although its easier for assembly its more cost effective for infiniti to do the short block and lets face it they are in the business of making money and holding on to it. or at least that is the explanation given to me by the service director but it seems like the short would be cheaper when you factor in all the little stuff
