Fumoto drain valve
Fumoto drain valve
Does anyone have one of the Fumoto oil drain valves ? I was going to buy one from Grubbs but the Fumoto website has it cheaper and gives you a choice of nipple or not. Anybody have nipple preferences ?
( i'm sure a few of you will get excited over that last sentence ! )

Re: Fumoto drain valve
I have the nipple less version. If I was to do it again, I'd get the nipple. Without the nipple, the oil shoots out of there, completely missing my oil catch can. Then as the oil slows down to a trickle, the oil catch can needs to be moved back under the valve. Just a mess. With the nipple, you can attach a dinky hose and let it take its sweet time to drain without worrying about spillage.

Lubespecialist was the best price I found. Here's a pic of the installed valve with my fabricated 'safety' and the nipple cover.

Make sure you spring for the safety clip for $1.

Hey guys,
A quick question.....
Does the valve come with a gasket as well? If not, is one neccessary? If so, what did you use?
Thanks, Doug.

Re: Fumoto drain valve
Read this post I recently made, Fumoto is running a special now. This link contains the code for a discounted price. I have it already, and love it!

Re: Fumoto drain valve
Thanks guys for the reply. Here are a couple of other questions I have:
Can you buy the safety clip on the Fumoto site? I can't seem to find it there. How important is the safety clip? After the discount, the nipple version sells for almost the same price as at lubespecialist.com. I'd rather buy directly from Fumoto if I can get the clip from them too; otherwise, I may have to order from lubespecialist.
Also, the Fumoto site has the following warning on their site:
"Warning! Since the threads part of Drain Valve is made of Brass and has the hollow construction, install it by hand, and with the wrench, give only a 1/4 turn to tighten it. Please take care not to over tighten."
Since hand tightening followed by the 1/4 wrench turn may not result in the valve being right-side-up depending on your oilpan threads, is it O.K. to not have the valve mounted at an odd angle?
Thanks again,
Doug.

Re: Fumoto drain valve
The safety clip really is more for psychological peace of mind, rather than serving an important function. Don't let it be your deciding factor. You can always make one out of a rubber washer like I did. Not sure why you prefer getting it from YM International Co. rather than Lubespecialist as they were very prompt in filling my order.
I wouldn't worry too much about the final position of the tightened valve either unless you're quite obsessive about that sort of thing. The lever is easy to reach regardless of its orientation.

Re: Fumoto drain valve
i got the nipple version. works well with a plastic tubing jammed into a an oil drain... have a cold beer and watch a few family guy episodes, and your oil is good to go.
i do not like satellite sized areola's but fumoto's nipple is not that big at all.

I did the same thing, But I used a rubber tube over nipple, which is about four inch long and It drain the oil perfect. I also take the tube and tuck in on top of the shield on the car. I ove it.
