wrong gas

My wife was "nice" enough to fill my tank for me... with 87. Now it runs like poo, of course. I read that the ecu is going to compensate for it by changing the timing or something to that effect. What I'm wondering is, how long after putting good gas back into it will it take to readjust back to normal? Also, would it help to reset anything myself?

As soon as you put 91+ back into the car it will be back to normal. You'll be fine for one tank IMO, but I'd lay off the throttle a bit until you can get some better gas in there.

+1! just take it easy for that tank. id suggest keeping the shifts under 3500rpm so your ecu isnt forced to retard your timing. youll know if your laying into her too much, youll hear a very audible pinging from under the hood.

yep, you should hear some ping under throttle. you can add some octane booster if you want but that won't do much. you might still hear some pinging into the next tank of premium but it will go away eventually.

then again some have said they use regular frequently and never hear pinging so who knows.

You're fine... You're engine will not knock or ping at all... I ran 87 for 2 straight months and took the car to the track.. Car ran great with no loss of MPG or performance.

+20, you are fine. With the cool weather you can get away with lower octane fuel. When you get down to 1/2 a tank or so fill it back up with 91 and so on.

Please stop trying to argue about this 91 crap.... the 3.5 in the maximas and altimas, plus many other different VQ motors do not recommend the 91 octane yet its the same motor..

i have put lower grades in my tank and the engine pings. it never pings otherwise. do you have a different explanation?

Same motor, however the G35 is tuned different. There's a reason why the G35 makes more power than those other motors. Please don't spread BS.

Please!!!! the "tune" is very very minimal.. Barely makes a different... Don't call my posts "BS" because I've gone ahead and done all this myself personally and experienced it... Lets not forget that I was running 87 in 120+ temps in AZ.. Felt no difference and saw no difference in MPG either... no "pinging" or "knocking"

You're BS.
