Re: A got to have item...

...and if the ECM forces the car into limp mode due to the increased air caused by an aftermarket plenum, it truly does not need to force the limp mode. This is mainly because the front 2 cylinders are now receiving the air that they should be receiving! Bummer.
So there would really be no need to change the fuel maps, just the need to tell the ECM not to worry about the increased air. Something like that.

Re: A got to have item...

Nice lesson Dave.

BTW,
Doug has told me that Technosquare is working on an ECU flash geared towards the Crawford Package. Won't be long from what I hear. My mods are on hold until I can get a reflash. I don't want my ECU to get grumpy.

Not to say this is a bad product, but I use Autotap if I want to see all these features....and with Autotap you could log this info...and save it, clear codes(SES), etc. Autotap connects to either your laptop or palm. lol....I sound like I work for Autotap.

Re: A got to have item...

That stuff looks cool but no laptop for me or palm. I keep the radio off to focus on driving and that would be the end of me if I started fing with my palm while driving.

By the way the TS guys emailed me with a reduced price of $174 including shipping....nice eh

Just tell them your from G35driver or its 195 plus shipping or something.

Daniel_G,

From what I can tell, both the Autotap and pocketlogger come with a CD and connector cable. According to the information on their websites, they provide much more information than the little Techtom unit.

I looked into code readers a while back and saw the Autotap and Pocketlogger. I passed on both because I didn't want to be driving around with my laptop in the front seat while making test runs. And I don't want to buy a PDA... at least for now.

That's not to say Autotap is a bad product of course.

Re: A got to have item...

Catatafish,

I really don't think your ECM will get "grumpy" by adding of the normal N/A mods. A 99% reliable rumor has it that the 04 cars ECM's are much more complex and control off a wide band O2 sensor's input.

SoCalTed is running the latest "Crawford" TechnoSquare ECU program. You can checkout his (247hp) dyno sheet posted elsewhere on G35Driver. Not a bad number for an N/A AT Sedan in my opinion.

Re: A got to have item...

Need favors from those folks who have the Techtom CMX-100 N2, pocketlogger, etc.

Please provide your intake air temperatures at idle, low speeds and approx. how long it takes to cool down after you get to highway speeds.

If possible I'd also like the same information from the stock G35 air intake system, as well as the JWT Popcharger w/heat shield, Injen, AEM, Nismo and K&N systems.

This information should benefit our collective knowledge.

Re: A got to have item...

Someone may also (i will time permitting) try out two different intakes same day within an hour or so so the ambient temp is the same and the results comparable and perform the ti time it takes to cool test. Problem will be getting the car cooled under the hood to the exact same temp for each run. Maybe i should get it hot as hell before each run by doing a couple WOT highway jaunts rather than try to let it cool to a certain temp.

Re: A got to have item...

I heard back from Danny at Technosquare today:

<blockquote><font class="small">In reply to:</font><hr>

Colin,

The price for G35Driver.com will be 165.75 + shipping. Retail is $195.00 + shipping.

Danny.

<hr></blockquote>

Good price and no need for G/Buy.
Dave - did you get the reduced price?

Re: A got to have item...

this might be another good alternative:
http://www.pocketlogger.com/index.php?pid=plobdii
It seems to be able to do the exact same things but you will be able to save all of the information in your palm pilot/pc, not just the peak values. With the serial cable, it'll be just around $200.

Re: A got to have item...

For those who are going to help with the "heat soak" test we'll probably need a list of parameters.

Heres a completed example of my first test for your consideration.

Car: 03 G35 Sedan
Air Intake System: Stillen CAI w/Popcharger air filter & Z-tube - System, including MAS Air Flow sensor, is fully insulated.
Ambient Temp (dash readout): 75F
A/C System: Off
Radiator Fans: Off
Water (Coolant) Temp: 190F - 200F
Intake Air Temp @ Idle for 3 minutes: 128F
Intake Air Temp @ 70mph: 84F
Approximate Cool Down Time: 3+ Minutes

Re: A got to have item...

Alagolfer and I spent part of today insulating the back of his Popcharger's velocity ring (picture above) and comparing the temperature profiles of his insulated JWT Popcharger and Z-tube vs. my insulated Stillen CAI system and Z-tube.

Please note: We don't present this info as absolute. These are the numbers we got while driving both cars throughout the day.

Alagolfer's 03.5 G35 Sedan
Air Intake System: Popcharger w/heat shield & Z-tube - Back of the velocity ring, MAS Air Flow sensor and Z-tube are fully insulated.
Ambient Temp (dash readout): 97F
A/C System: On
Radiator Fans: On or Cycling.
Water (Coolant) Temp: 190F - 210F
Intake Air Temp @ Idle for 5 minutes: 134-138F
Intake Air Temp @ 60mph: 116F
Approximate Cool Down Time: 2+ Minutes
Note: Pre-insulating the V-ring numbers - 82F air temp & 114F idle temp.

DaveO's 03 G35 Sedan
Air Intake System: Stillen CAI w/Popcharger air filter & Z-tube - System, including MAS Air Flow sensor, is fully insulated.
Ambient Temp (dash readout): 98F
A/C System: On
Radiator Fans: On or Cycling
Water (Coolant) Temp: 190F - 210F
Intake Air Temp @ Idle for 2+ minutes: 112-115F
Intake Air Temp @ 60mph: 107-109F
Approximate Cool Down Time: 2+ Minutes

Alagolfer noted throughout the day his temps were about double what mine were. For example: At idle, when the Stillen system was about 15F above ambient temp, the Popcharger’s temps were 30-35F above ambient. At 60mph the insulated Popcharger system was an average of 10F higher than the insulated Stillen system.

Next up... the stock air case with an insulated Z-Tube.

We'd still like to get info on a non-insulated Popcharger - Z tube, a K&N Short Ram, and an Injen, AEM, or Nismo system. FYI, the pavement temperature in front of the house was 155F with a 90F air temp. We didn't get it at 98F.

Re: A got to have item...

Dave, it feels great to be back at sea level. The altitude and temperature at your place sucked all the horsepower out of my car. Thanks again for all the help.
