Mine works fine in the day too. There are two methods. One uses the hot wire from the side, one uses the ground. You may have picked the wrong method. Here's the DIY I used.

Re: Side Marker Blinking DIY Mistake

When I did mine, I installed 4 'Super Bright' LEDs as well. In the daytime, they flash with the stock bulb and the front signal, so in effect make the marker a bit more visible. At night (headlights on), the LEDs flash with the signal lights and the OEM marker bulb flashes opposite to the signals. Works well, and makes it more distinctly visible both day or night.

Re: Side Marker Blinking DIY Mistake

Ah, I figured out my problem~ I installed polar LED bulbs that only works with uni-directional current. I went down last night and switched the polarity and behold the blinker works in the daytime as well. (but doesn't work at night now) I think I'll switch back to stock light bulbs until I can order some super bright bipolar LED bulbs.

Does anyone know where to find this DIY? I have checked all the links from this thread, and all the corresponding links on the pages referenced, and none of them work anymore. Can somebody post the DIY again, or maybe put a link that works. Thanks!

this has been my only complaint about the G. a car to the side of me can't
tell whether or not i'm about to turn.

a couple questions...

besides wire cutters / wire strippers / electrical tape...what else do you need?
can novice DIYers accomplish this?

Thanks in advance.

well, you will need to jack the car up and take the rim off...
and you will need wire tappers, to connect a bare wire to an existing wire, they have those at home depot/ radio shack...
and @ 2 feet or so of wire...

and yes, its a very easy DIY

hey afropuff.. any news on that whole sidemarker causing your car to act goofy?

for those of you not knowing what i'm talking about, a while ago he had trouble with his car, and the dealer said it was because of this mod... just want some closure/clarifications from him if he can provide it, so you guys don't get screwed as well.

I have the mod, my car is not screwy. I'd recommend wire taps instead of electrical tape. Makes the job a whole lot easier and cleaner looking.

and

http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthre...b=5&o=&fpart=1

is where I got my info from...

basic summary from those threads is that the dealers are full of ****.. if you guys don't mind my asking, how long have each of you had this modification installed and running?

Thanks.

I found this sight which shows a simplified circuit explaining how this mod works. http://www.p-vector.com/bob/garage/vw/side_marker/

Now I know why polarized LED's don't work in the side marker. I think this mod has been around for a while long before the G.

mikevle-
I dug a bit deeper and found the "new" link to the old DIY...here it is
http://www.6mt.net/mod-g35-sidemarker.php

wizawuza-
I've had the blinker mod for over a year now.........no issues what so ever. Just knocked on some wood

I followed the above DIY to the T. (except I didnt remove my tires.....worked around them)

Good luck
