Again Amsoil never says their non certified oils are certified. How is that deceptive?.

 

The API are a bunch of pussies, they don't enforce testing and label integrity. If it was up to me, nobody could say their oil "meets or exceeds" API standard "XX" unless it's been tested by API. Well they don't. Anyone can SAY it does and there has never been any testing.

THAT is what he means. I too agree that it's somewhat deceptive to even say your oil "meets" API standards when there is no evidence that it does.

 

I'm looking at it from the perspective of a G owner, not saying 0w-30 is bad in general.

Nissan (Infiniti) per your cut and paste from the Infiniti service manual:

SAE 5W-30 viscosity oil is preferred for all temperatures. SAE
10W-30 and 10W-40 viscosity oil may be used if the ambient
temperature is above -18°C(0°F)

So I'm curious as to why you say going with 0w-30 is bad, again from the perspective of a G owner? It's going to flow better than a 5w when cold and should be in the range where it needs to be at operating temperature, viscosity wise.

 

I am going to make my own conclusion here: Amsoil has been is business making synthetic motor oil since 1972....if they've been in business since then, they must be doing something right. (by the way, it was the first API approved synthetic motor oil) When it comes down to it, they have the experience, and that means something, it has too.
Also, its my understanding that 0W-30 is the only 100% synthetic oil since you have to add impurities to get any weight above that.

 

Don't forget about 0w-20 and 0w-40 probably as being PAO based.

 

That's what I sorta meant, but to clarify, 0w-##, are the only 100% synthetics.

 

How much is Amsoil? I've always used Mobile1 with no probs, It's really cheap at walmart but if Amsoil is cheaper I just might give it a try. A house down the street has a sign saying he sells it.

 

It's about $2 more per quart.

 

Ouch... Why not go with mobile1? Just curious why someone would pay more. Maybe for extreme racing applications?

 

Its a better oil. Its 100% synthetic. Its been proven to reduce wear of engine components. Mobil1 is good, but I want the best for my motor. I feel like Amsoil is the best.

 

Per UOA's in the past, it appears that the only good Mobil1 Oil for the VQ35 is the 0w-40. The 5w-30 does not appear to do well in the VQ35 at all, again, based on UOA's.

 

I totally appreciate the idea of using the absolute best oil wether it helps or not. We are all enthusiasts here so I can totally relate. But I also feel that if you use any good oil and change it regularly, you will be more than fine for the life of your car. I'll stick with mobile1 cause it's priced right and comes in convenient 5qt jugs. I like to change my own oil and pour the used oil back into the empty jug.

I guess I'll be the guinea pig here and continue using Mobile1. I'm guessing my motor will be performing just as good as any motor using amsoil say after 100k miles, but I'll let you all know if I run into any probs.

I'm sure it will be OK even after 100K. I used Mobil1 in my 96 Accord for it's entire 117K miles (except for the first 1000 miles) and the engine never game me problems and never burned a drop of oil.

 

I went 130k on mobile1 in my bimmer and it also never burned a drop and ran like new. I'm at 83k on my G and it also runs like new. However, I do like that Amsoil is 100% synthetic. Even if it makes no difference, it's just nice knowing that you are using the best.

 

im not sure but my cousin runs amsoil in his bmw and it was right on the bottle the recommend changing the oil every 15k miles. Then underneath that its says to change the oil under manufactures specs
