boost or all motor?
I need a new block for my coupe. im going to buy one fully built. i really like naturally inspired motors but i also know that going that route will cost alot of money and i will not get the same results as a turbo motor. i can either buy a high compresion block or a low compresion block for turbo applications. stuck in between. how much power can we really get out of a motor that has no turbo nor is supercharged. , and how much money will it take to make the car run with turbo g35 going all motor?
You will never be able to match the performance of a TT setup with an N/A VQ. If you do a fully built motor and stroked as much as possible, which I'm assuming will cost upwards of $15,000 you won't see higher than 310-315whp.
On the other hand, spend $20,000 on a TT + built motor and all other supporting mods and you have 600+whp depending on the setup.

Who is doing your work? Even a fully stroked and built Cosworth motor and head won't cost that much, and you should be looking at about 400 to 450 to the wheels... I can't tell you what I was quoted, but it was much less than $15k...

If I had it to do over . I would have stayed N/A . The down time and money spent was way to much . I did make many mistakes along the way . Be careful what shop you pick . Some of the top notch shops on these form are not what every one makes them out to be . There are several AAM type shops here on the forums . I know there are trying to improve thier image . But some shops with the best image on the forums are the most money comes first , we do nothing wrong shops

That is just the motor. What about labor/support mods?
You will never get anywhere near 400whp N/A, unless there is something new I have never seen.
If you want 310whp+, you need boost.

Nope. All motor VQs put together by a good builder have been putting out about 400whp. The motor Cosworth built for SSC for the Castrol Challenge was rated at 450 to the wheels. I think there were a few on my350z too... The prices Cosworth offered for everything including the plenum were very tempting... if one day I feel the need to spend that much more on my car, we'll find out for sure from my personal first hand experience.

$4635 (ported heads)
$1313 (plenum)
$1399 (cams)
$1190 (ultra race valve spring kit)
$655 (fuel rail)
A screaming 400hp VQDE would be nice, but ($17,431) makes you see the reality of it. Especially when you have 10k (oil coolers/LG radiator, drivetrain components, gauges, exhaust from the block back, ECU, etc.) to finish off a project like this correctly.

Unless this isn't the motor you're talking about, you're wrong. There has never been a 450whp N/A VQ in North America as far as we know. I'm not say I, because I'm pretty sure I have the majority of members here to agree with me.
Basically my whole point is it is not worth it to go N/A if you want power. Well, not only is it not worth it, you can't match the power with boost. It is still very expensive either way.
It depends on what you're looking for. If you're tracking your car, you might be better off with the linear power of na. If you're taking your car to the 1/4 mile strip, you want boost. The last time I talked to the guys at Cosworth, all I was asking for was 350 to the wheels. They were claiming 400 is doable. They never disappointed with their other motors, I don't see why this one would be that different.
