Bad Throttle Chamber

Hey...I thought I'd create a new thread even though I bumped the old one with new information. Sorry if I'm breaking a rule.

Anyway, the estimate I got from the dealership regarding my complaint of low idle or idle drop, engine stop was that my throttle chamber is going bad. When I made the appointment I told them that I thought my MAF sensor needed cleaning (like you guys told me to), he said "how do you know that" (I'm sure it's because I'm a chick) and I said I just know that (he laughed). Didn't tell him I know because you guys said so!!

Now I want to make sure that I'm not getting an unnecessary diagnosis due to my smarta**ness.

The diagnosis actually says: Found throttle chamber bad won't set IAVL
Labor $89.95 part $440.00

They also said I need a fuel damper to stop the knocking sound I hear...I'm not doing that. He did say it wasn't really necessary only if it bugged me.

Should I order the chamber myself and bring it to them to put in? Thank you for any input!

Hey, I thought this sounded familiar. I sounds like our diagnosis was incorrect. :-( Oh well, at least you had something smart to say to the mechanic.

Weather is pretty crappy around here, but I will get pics of the new ride up soon. She already has 1037 miles and TWO TRAFFIC TICKETS! haha

Doing the calculation if I have this car for a year (10,000 miles) I will have 20 tickets and probably end up in the slammer. Hopefully I won't get any more. Keep good thoughts for me.

Back on topic...good luck with that throttle body. BUMP - Any more advice from the experts?

:-)

the IAVL (idle air volume learn) wont take because of the throttle body being dirty.

Many people have fixed low idle by cleaning the TB...but be warned, you can ruin the tb by doing so.

The trick is to get the TB plate to open without forcing it open.

I've heard of people doing this by starting the car, putting into gear, and shutting engine off without going back to park. use the TB cleaner lightly on a rag with a small prod to push and clean. BE careful if you do try this...but if this does fix it then you don't have to worry about buying a new one or installing/uninstalling (even though it takes me like 20 min to do a swap)
