this is from 2006. Castrol has been through many reformulations since then. Unless you had a stock pile of the old castrol it is all GROUP III. Yes Mobil 1 0w-40 is still PAO, but not all PAO. Most oil users uses 5w-30 or 5w-20 due to C.A.F.E standards. Just because one grade that barely anyone uses is of a certain blend does not make the entire stock line same.
I'm fully aware of BITOG. I don't think there have been many (only a few from what I found) VOA of the Gold stuff. However, from what I've read, there haven't been many negative UOAs about the Gold stuff, in fact, many UOA's comparable to the green stuff.

Where did you see GC is no longer Grp IV based? I'd like to see that as I bought 42 qts of the stuff last year.

Here's one link that says there are indications of the base oil being different but I haven't found any other:

As for the Mobil1, I should have said the Mobil1 0w-40 base stock is PAO, not GrpIII.

Now if my memory is correct, at BITOG, the consensus is any 0w-XX oil must be PAO based.. Is that a wrong consensus?

royal purple 5w30 with napa gold filter. here's a tip for you guys, before you put your oil filter on pour as much oil in to it as you can, then install it. almost instant oil pressure on start up. and get an oil filter with an anti drain back valve that way when you turn off your engine the oil will stay in the filter for faster oil pressure build on a cold start.

Oil and Filter

So I did a lot of reading, searching and more searching on this forum and feel like I am going in circles without getting updated info. I drive my car hard and was wondering what kind of oil and filter to use?

You have not searched hard enough!

5w-30 or 10-30 Mobile1 Synthetic oil is good w/ a Mobile1 oil filter..

Another new subject/question....:)

Using any quality synthetic oil and filter will increase the life of your motor.
Mobil 1 along with their filters are an excellent choice, I put 125K miles on
my last Z car using that combo. I saw it yesterday and it's still running and
looking good.
