condenser fan operating correctly?

I''m changing out my condenser fan the one closest to the front of the car right in front of the radiator and was wondering how can I tell if the motor on the fan is operational? I haven't had the fan on the car for about 3 weeks now and the car hasn't shown any signs of overheating. I can't even remember the last time I saw the fan actually spinning. Could someone tell me how to get the fan to turn on.

Thanks for your time.

The minute you turn on your AC, this fan should be kicking in. If not, it might be your fan motor, or the relay switch to the fan may be malfunctioning or getting no power, a lose wire not getting juice to the fan, the fuse is out, or there could be a problem with your thermo sensor. It could a host of other issues, but this would be my start-up list of things to look at. Good luck!

This fan is for the AC condenser primarily. The radiator fan, which sits between the radiator and the engine, has a clutch that kicks in if your engine starts to get hot-- it is designed specifically to cool your engine.

It doesn't turn on instantly unless its very hot outside...but it should kick on within 30-45 sec from the time that you turn on the AC.

The AC (Aux. Fan) is necessary to cool the vehicle under load when the air conditioner is on. It will heat up the engine much more than normal on hot days.

did the OP ever fix the problem? I would like to know also. Because I think the fan motor on my driver's side fan is not working like it should also. It spins up sometimes but not all the time.

If you have dual electric fans one of them will kick on at a lower temp (like 190*) or when the AC is on. The other fan kicks on at the "high" end of safe operational temperatures (like 204*).
