Re: Octane Booster--Good Idea?

TN $2.00 for 93 octane, no state income tax, no socialist government tampering with the economy, no power shortage, smoking in restaurants, free enterprise reigns, 2000 sq ft house for $150,000 in the emissions-unregulated burbs, rolling hills, horsies, no mudslides, no earthquakes, no tofu, best nudey bar in the country, no crips, no bloods, and casino gambling 30 minutes away.

However,
No beach, no ocean, no surfing, no skate parks, no technosquare shop, no mod friendly dealership, and fewer blonde chics.

Everything has a price and a trade off.

Re: Octane Booster--Good Idea?

Cali 91 is best you can get. The booster helps when it hot by keeping the engine from knocking. I use the low stuff and NOS states its addititve is cat safe. I get a legal leg to stand on.

Re: Octane Booster--Good Idea?

Regarding octane rating - it's the emissions, dummy (talking to myself)! That's why we get crappy 91 Octane in California, and the tree huggers would make it even lower if they could.

Regarding price - I paid $2.02 per gallon for 93 Octane fuel in Boise, Idaho last month, with not a refinery to be found. I can almost see the smokestacks for the Shell, Chevron, Valero, & other refineries from my house (really, they're 20 miles away), yet I paid $2.74 per gallon that same day for 91 octane in my eastbay hometown. Why do they charge so much when there is obviously no issue of "availability" - for the same reason a dog licks his ba**s - because they can !!

Re: Octane Booster--Good Idea?

Shoot,
I saw premium gas for $1.89 at Shamerock in Houston
today! The gas prices are dropping. You can find 93 octane
for under $2 all over the place now. Thank god! My gas bill
last month from Shell was over $300. The wife drive a 2K
Maxima and also uses premium fuel.

Re: Octane Booster--Good Idea?

i use a '93 suburban (195k miles on it.... which reminds me i have to drive it home TODAY! shiet)... for work and just leave it in downtown houston. When i have to go out and about in the houston area instead of driving my g, i drive the suburban. the other day i filled up and it was 69.32 for regular gas. lol $70 dollars to fill up a damn tank. And i get about 11-12 miles per gallon on that thing. Luckily for the summer my job pays 32 cents per mile driven and it more than pays for gas. It also covers depreciation costs on my vehicle (or supposed to) so i actually make a little dough on that deal lol. i have about half a tank since the $70 dollar fillup and have driven enough to get paid like 82 dollars or something like that... yeah gas is just below 2 bucks around here right now for premium. 93 octane at shell... thats all i use cause i have a gas card there and my dad jsut makes me pay what i use over like 100 dollars a month (pretty good deal for me lol)

Re: Octane Booster--Good Idea?

I live in cali too, and usually i just fill up with 91 and sometimes boost it, but some friends of mine found gas stations offering 100 octane from the pump. One in Lake Elsinore and one in West Covina. Im still skeptical about it coming from a pump in california, so they offered to take me there. Ill update you if its true.

Re: Octane Booster--Good Idea?

Here in NYC plus = 91 and premium = 93. That is, unless you find a Sunoco station... they have 91, 93, AND 94... my dealership gave me a full tank of the stuff when i picked her up

PS - off topic question... should i be getting like 12 mpg during my break in period? i have been adhering to the rpm limitations, and only have like 200 miles on the car so far

Re: Octane Booster--Good Idea?

Why would you guys use 100 octane on a stock engine?? It does nothing but drain your wallet. 91 is all you need.
