finally installed my 5/16 plenum spacer, ztube, and k&n drop in but VERY SAD ;[

So i spent about 4 hours today installing the plenum spacer. Everything went well except for the fact i broke all 6 bolts in the lower plenum. I thought i set it to the correct torque settings but i guess not. I thought the click noise meant that the bolt was rightfully tightened but i realized in the end that each of the bolt broke instead of it being a :click". *sigh* I put everything back in along with the ztube and k&n filter. Driving though, I did felt some improvement in speed. My 5th gear was driving a lot faster than it did before. Also, I hear this whistling noise whenever i accelerate. *Not sure if its not normal*

I went to my local shop after everything and they told me that they are going to charge me $160 to fix everything. Byebye G until tomorrow :[

Bolts breaking?! Your definitely over torque, most likely you used a foot pound torque wrench which is a BIG no no.

100 inch pounds isn't that much torque at all. Nothing close enough to break bolts.

Congrats on the install. I love this mod as well!!

The whistling is actually quite common. But yeah, you gotta be careful when tightening the plenum bolts.

You don't really need a professional installation for it but be sure to read and understand the instructions before starting.

Tony

it was actually my mistake on the torque wrench. I had no idea how to use it and apparently messed up big time xD So is the whistling suppose to happen? It makes it kinda sound like i have a blow off valve going off whenever i accelerate Lol

All you guys tightening the plenum bolts, just use a glove and hand tighten with one hand. It works and its safe! Just check them now and again. Torque wrench use at that low setting is problematic...

Not if you have an inch-lbs torque wrench. It is much more accurate than a ft-lbs at that low of a level. I guess it also depends if you have a good one or a POS wrench.

this has got to be a joke!

It doesn’t take 4 hrs to install a plenum spacer (even for a noob)... and why would you be tightening the lower collector?... 100 inch pounds is about full force tight with a nut driver - to brake a bolt would take quite a bit of force - how in the world do you break 6???

5th gear pulls hard? - how are you driving with 6 broken bolts in the lower collector???

Reads to me like a Z board member got bored with the RA threads and is churning up garbage to post on the my350Z forum.

I bet money I'm right.

I had trouble with using the torque wrench at a low setting. I actually broke a bolt, but uhh its not exactly a clicking sound, more like a gun shot pop. I used a nut driver on the rest of the bolts. and how did you put everything back together and drive it with the broken bolts in the lower plenum?

Also, how am i still driving it? No idea, i am still able to. Please, bet your money I will bet you 1000$ on this, as I get my car back later today from the shop. If you are willing to bet, I will post up my invoice once I get back home tonight

Don’t be offended... there are a couple of drama threads going on (in other areas) - and some of the Z guys think everyone on this forum is an idiot... I thought you might be one of them trying to create a scenario to see how people reacted...

However, everything else in my post still stands = it shouldnt take 4 hrs, I don’t know how you broke 6 bolts (after 1 or 2 I’d think you’d know they were breaking), why you were tightening the lower collector if all you were doing is installing a spacer and how you were able to drive with 6 broken bolts that hold the manifold on.

So as for you not being a plant making stuff up – okay, I guess maybe you aren’t. But wow – the other still is baffling.
