Oil cooler go good investment for a Vortech S.C.?
Reading posts in various forums about vortech s.c. kit on 350z + G's, I found people said the down side to the kit that that it runs engine oil from the pan to the sc which heats it up even more and is bad on the engine and sc. heat = less power and more wear on engine. Would an oil cooler solve this "down side" on the vortech?
Re: Oil cooler go good investment for a Vortech S.C.?
IMO, an oil cooler would be a good investment to keep your FI investment and engine in safe shape. An oil cooler is pretty pricey though but sometimes necessary for those who track their cars hard. Another cheaper alternative would be to get an oil pan with more capacity or an oil pan spacer kit. Both would allow more total oil in the sytem, usually 6+ qts.

IMO, get both.On the long run it'll be will worth it. Also give you a peace of mind. This is all from experience. Also a fin oil pan w/ large capacity is another possibilty....although pricey about $450 the fins does help the cooling.

I haven't looked at the two, but there's likely a size difference and possibly a difference in grade of materials used. And one isn't stamped with the NISMO logo. I'd take a kit just for simplicity's sake, if the price was right. I couldn't justify spending more than $350! The Jeggs or Summit catalog would come out and an alternative solution would be found, pronto! lol

Ok, first step is to figure out if you need one. You do this by installing an oil pressure gage and an oil temperature thermometer. Stick em somewhere out of the way, as you won't need em every second, but somewhere you can look at em from time to time.
If your oil pressure gets low (see ESM for minimum) add a cooler. If you see oil temps too high, likewise get a cooler. If not, your current cooler will be fine.
