Apexi AFC-II controller

I was thinking of waiting on upgrading plenum, exhaust, and cats until after the TS ecu upgrade was available for a 2004.5, but now i have found out a little about otehr ways of maintaining a good a/f mixture with the use of this piggy back system. could someone enlighten me as to the ease of install, possible problems or reasons not to get this product, or reasons TOO get it?

I could have this one installed when i get my exhaust at the same shop where i am purchasing/having my exhaust installed.... it seems pretty cool and it'll be a nice little screen display to have in the ride to impress the ladies (they go nuts for the "Fast and the Furious" bs stuff"

Im just trying to gather info and opinions on this product through this thread... hit me back plz

Re: Apexi AFC-II controller

The engine [a big sample of engines] are test on engine dynos in the lab to pin down exact air flows.
The VE [volumetric efficiency] is what percent of the theoretical maximum amount of air the atmosperic pressure forces into the cylinder at each rpm.
By SAE standards the heads are flowed and the heads and entire intake modeled at 25" or 28" of water column restriction.

The restriction of all the things from the intake valve thru everything out to the atmosphere is assummed to be approximately [28"] or 1 psi or 6.8% WORST CASE.

You cannot change the valves [easily] or the heads [easily], so that leaves the runners and plenum, the throttle body and piping before it , the MAF, and finally the air filter and air box and box opening to the atmosphere.

So far noone has offered MAFs or throttle bodies so that reduces the thing s to change..........the MAF is 25% and so is the throttle body so together 50% is unchangeable.

All the aftermarket parts are playing with manipulating 3.4%.[IN TOTAL]......only screwing with MAF calibration can affect the AF ratio beyond this amount.

Don't believe much you hear/see about lean running G35 engines from mods as the AF measurements on Dynojet are WRONG due to the test location and acceleration time on the dyno.

Obviously super/turbo charging is a SPECIAL case as more than atmospheric pressure is forcing more air into cylinders---- but normally aspirated offers minute changes at best.......surely no more than 5% more air flow into engine and 5% is insignificant as far as mixture [safety is concerned].

I have no clue what Q45tech just said. I started to read it, but then I got a headache from all the technical mumbo jumbo so I stopped...

Re: Apexi AFC-II controller

He said that all the bolt on mods we're doing couldn't possibly change the air increase more than 5% thus we're NOT running lean.

He said that many people might think they're running lean because of dyno reports which he says aren't accurate because the ECU thinks it's driving on a road with wind drag and but it's not, it's driving on a dyno.

He said that on a Mustang dyno this is compensated for by entering weight of the vehicle, among other things, and will give a more accurate reading.

Re: Apexi AFC-II controller

With all my mods I am getting an error code on my check engine light that says, Lean Bank 1. That does not mean I'm running lean. Mostly likely it means that I've got an air leak or bad sensor as a result of the install or product I've replaced things with.

hmmmm so ur saying that i should just stop worrying about it i guess lol.... Well i guess i'll jsut go ahead and pretend not to think anything of running lean as i know people who have done MUCH MUCH more than is even available for the g to their cars (different makes and models) and have never really had any problems

Not fair fish, it took me 3 months and countless hours of research to become proficient in understanding Q45tech posts. Let them squirm a bit, would ya! ...lol

Just thinking out loud...
Sounds like we could use an aftermarket MAF that can read higher voltage and therefore an effective higher amount of airflow. Then it could tell the ECU to squirt more fuel.

This all depends on if the injectors indeed have the capacity to blast more fuel into the cylinders (or bigger ones might be needed). But....Q45 is saying that the other factors in the whole system can easily be the bottle neck.
