Got the new TCM flash

I went from AL002 to AL004 and my car feels exactly the same. My friend has a 04 Gcoup 5at and when I drove his car in MM it shifts usually around 100-150rpm after you engage it. I was hoping mine would be like his. My before and after is still around a 500-1000rpm range of lag. Did anyone else get the flash done and notice it did not help?

Re: Got the new TCM flash

I'm just curious as to what the exact purpose of the TCM flash is?

Re: Got the new TCM flash

I had mine upgraded a while back as well. I have an early model G35 and felt a funny "shudder" while driving down the street at about 3o to 40 mph. At first, I thought it was the torque converter locking or something. The dealer did the reflash and it seemed to help the problem. I really didn't feel any other differences though.

I read a few posts from some of the more respected members here like DaveO and GurgenP that both had the reflash done I believe. They said that the addition of grounding wires made a significant difference in shift quality! I'm looking at upgrading my old 5-wire kit since the results look so positive. Even if it helps a little, it's worth it. I've done a few minor modifications to all my cars. The best bang-for-your-buck for about $150 has been the 5-wire grounding kits in all of them. The CAIs have had a varied and inconsistent effect. With some cars, they seemd to make more difference. With others, only more noise. The ECU chip upgrades make a big difference on the German cars, so I'm now looking at the Technosquare re-flash for the G35.

Re: Got the new TCM flash

Justin at EverythingG35.com, the parts side of Infiniti of Scottsdale (AZ), saw to it that my car's TCU AL000 program became an AL004 program.

Did it help? Yes, it's much better in both modes. However, it's taken a lot of time to feel the full effects. Don't ask me why, I'm as perplexed as anyone. Is it as good as the 2004.5 TCU setup? No.

Once again... my thanks to Justin, EverythingG35 and Infiniti of Scottsdale.

Re: Got the new TCM flash

My update was also from the al000 to the al004 program, and I noticed a small improvement; mainly it was how quickly it downshifted upon hitting full throttle, the ~1 second hesitation was gone.

The problem may have been inherent to the very first AL000 versions (mine and Dave's) and not as much to the AL002 ones (yours). THat maybe why you dodn't see a noticeable improvement.

Unfortunately, they treated the sedan people less than seriously until the 04.5 model production, which made the TCM shifting pattern identical to the coupe's. There is a rumor that the 04 sedans will get the upgrade to the 04.5 TCM shifting, but no word as of yet on what will happen to US.
