I didn't think this procedure needed to be done until at least 100k. What's the mileage on your G?

Have you run BG44 through the tank or BG-MOA in the crankcase?

A valve job on dohc is not typically a diy.

To the OP, adjust valve clearances on a VQ35 is not just a matter of turning an adjustment screw.

You have to measure the clearances, remove the camshafts, calculate the new valve lifter size you need, purchase them, install and remeasure the cold and hot clearances again to verify.

I have a constant tick on the drivers side of the engine. It speeds up as I accelerate. Im pretty confident its valvetrain noise, but dont have the procedure to assess it or repair it...

If you're looking at doing a valve lash adj yourself I would highly advise against it. First start by running a synthtic oil if you don't already. Then run BG MOA and 44 through the crankcase and gas.

I do run synthetic oil, but have never tried the BG products. I will get the MOA and 44 and try them...

I have the Service Manual, and it does seem like a real S.O.B. to do the valve lash adjustment, but I'm afraid its going to have to be done. I just really dont want to pay the Stealership to do it. Typically, what does the dealer charge for this "adjustment". I had a local Nissan whiz (worked for Nissan dealer for 20 years, started his own shop) look into it and said he wouldnt tear into it for less than $1000!

I see that the lifters come in 27 sizes. Do I order them by the difference in measurment of lifter thickness + out of spec. cold gap, or by the OEM size stamped on each lifter? That part of the procedure has me confused... The rest is just timing and nuts and bolts. I just want to do this once...

Do the "big box" parts stores carry BG products? Or do I need to find a BG dealer in my area?

BTW... I appreciate all of your responses to all of my questions. The info I have gathered is priceless. Its nice to have a place like this to turn to when you need help.

i wouldnt let it tap like that for too long. with time, depending on how bad it is, it could damage and "mushroom" some engine parts
