more power

so i searched around some, but only saw the main ways to get more power, intake kit, exhaust, plen spacer, FI.

right now, all i have is a ztube. i want to stay with paper air filters because my personal opinion is that they filter better, and i think the stock intake design does a pretty good job of grabbing air. i also plan to keep the stock exhaust because i love the tone and dont want anything louder. i dont want to go FI, for now anyway. im looking at getting a plen spacer soon, but what else can i do to up the power a little bit. im not looking for 100 more horses obviously, but maybe a couple things to get an extra kick, thanks

forgot to ask about tuning for these cars. i have a truck and got a tune for the computer and noticed some decent gains. but the truck was made for 87 octane, so getting a tune for 91 octane made a difference. since this car is already tuned for 91 octane, im guessing its got a decent stock tune. is a tune a waste of money or are ppl getting results from them?

you could also do a bit of weight reduction, get lighter wheels, or a lighter clutch/flywheel combo. You won't be adding power, but acceleration and response would improve.

weight reduction is a good idea, any thoughts on performance tunes?

For the price of what you're going to pay for all these mods and only get a few horsepower you should save your money and go FI. Been there, done that...

you would be lucky to get even close to that with

-intake
-TB spacer
-spacer
-headers
-testpipes
-exhaust
-tune

yea, i know those air flow mods, whether its intake or exhaust, dont do a lot. however, long tube headers on v8s will add quite a bit of power though, but on these smaller engines, not so much. i already said im not putting a new exhaust or intake on it and if the spacers isnt going to make much of a difference then ill forget about that too. and a throttle body spacer is worthless if the injectors are after it. all it will do is make noise, but no extra power.

how will this engine hold up to so mild FI?

your not gonna get any crazy power unless you dip into some sort of FI application..

Mike,

Given that the plenum spacer is worth between 8-15 HP (depending on who you listen to) and can be had for under $200 I think it's a good idea. I, too, don't want to change exhaust even though it would add more power. I'm 46 and am not looking for a louder car, just a faster one. I already have a ztube, drop-in K&N, and am adding a spacer, grounding kit, and a trunk spoiler. After that I'll probably stop, but a tuner is a possibility in the future. Infiniti has tweaked these engines to produce a lot of power, so there's not a lot left for us to pull out unless you're willing to go turbo or SC'd.

Hope this helps.

Bare bones just a plain TT kit with some sort of timing control, you should be safe up to ~350WHP or so. With additional supporting mods such as fuel return, larger injectors, piggyback ECU, oil cooler, ect... you should be safe up to 400WHP or so with a good conservative tune. I'm running mine around 420WHP with no issues, but I have alot of supporting mods to keep things safer.

By the way if you plan to go FI the plenum spacer isn't going to help any. I added one afterwards and it dyno'd to exactly same as before.

On a budget and assuming you like torque. You're non revup right?

Find the powerlab spacer or an used 5/16th spacer and maybe a HR Y pipe. Mild, won't greatly affect noise and these are mods you will feel. Intake-wise you are good with your 06.

If you have the revup motor, I bet even a non-rev lower manifold would help alot.

you should just bottle feed ur g and get some NOS. A 50-75 shot will give you a kick at the push of a button. if used properly there will be no negative effect on your engine
