tornado twister/ spiral max

I was cleaning my drop in K&N filter today when I noticed my old spiral max that I put in my acura legend when i was sixteen. I took it out when I sold the car. You know what I am talking about, the one that sits in the intake pipe and is suppose to make the incoming air twist like a tornado and some how is suppose to give you better hp and gas mileage.

Well I put it in my g35 just for fun and the results were really weird. Well first off the once my engine warmed up the idle went all the way down, the rpm gauge showed it almost on zero but the engine was still turning. Okay to the good, stuff. I start racing around my streets to test it and my car was really fast of the line. It changed the sound of my car and made it sound a lot deeper. It was a really cool sound. It was also really faster up to about 3000 rpms and then sucked. I also noticed the response from a dead still was a lot faster. After 3000 rpm's my car was a lot slower. It just didn't pull you back into your seats like normal. If your were driving about 40 and up and floored it there was a little hesitation, then real fast until high rpms and then slow agin.

I got to race a dodge ram single cab and smoked him so bad especially of the line. Pretty good for a g with a tornado twister blocking the intake.

I just took it out of my car now because my car started to stall when I would stop and put it into park.

I wonder why my car acted so weird? Anyways, I wonder if anyone could figure out why I would get low end power and lose top end, why it would lower the rpms so much?

DO you think cleaning my airfilter could be the reason I got the low end power back? Do you think it could have been something with my computer not readjusting yet? I only left it in for about twenty minutes and didn't do an ecu reset.
My guess is once you get going and high rpms come in it just blocks to much of the airway. I still haven't figured out why it might help out in lower rpms.

Sorry I got have any real facts to go by other than my feelings, but my g-tech is on its way. Once my g-tech arrives I might throw it back in just to play around.

As for now, my tornado twister is just a decoration on my dresser again. I would say the pluses would be sound, low rpm power. I would say minus would be high rpm power, stalling and little 30 and up hesitation on flooring.

Re: tornado twister/ spiral max

A vortex or turbulant air flow ahead/through the MAF Sensor confuses the heck out of the ECU. This is not a good thing to do, IMO.

One of our local reporters did a study on this device and found that it didn't work. Here's the story and video. 10 News Report
