a/c gradually blows cool air then hot!

Not sure what the problem with my car is. But when I start her up and let her run everything seems fine. Then i turn my A/C on set the temp to about 75, it blows cool air which seems right, and then the air starts getting warmer and eventually hot. I tried setting the temp to 60 and it still blows hot air, and then my thermometer guage starts to rise.

I check my fans and they seem to be working fine. This seems to only happen when I use the A/C. It just eventually stops blowing out cold air and gets really hot.

So I turn the A/C off, and just run the fans at maximum and set the temp to the max which is 90, and then the thermometer guage needle starts to go back down back to 50%.

Anyone know what the problem might be? This only happens when my car is not moving but sitting with the engine running in one place.

hmmmm. Are both fans going when the AC is turn on? Is the compressor pulley engaging?

So it blows cold when your car is moving?

maybe you need to recharge the a/c system?

yes, when i am driving, the temp guage is at 50% which is normal and my a/c blows cool air... it's only when im staying in one place that the a/c starts to blow out hot air...

when i check my hood, the passenger side fan starts blowing a few seconds after i turn the a/c on, the right side fan is off, and at times both fans blow.

My car has been garaged 85% of the time. I had an optima yellow top for the battery (i know it doesn't make a good starter battery). I jumped it so many times until one day it couldn't hold a charge anymore. So I went to the dealer to get a replacement factory battery, installed it, and everything was fine. I don't start the car much and let it sit for long periods of time and have jump started my car so many times i can't even keep track. But lately I've been keeping up with it and starting and driving it around more often. Not sure if that has anything to do with why my car is acting up.

How do you recharge the a/c system? And I'm not sure what you mean by compressor pulley. I am not that technical when it comes to engine stuff.

The ac compressor pulley spins with the crank but only engaged when the AC is turned on.

Could be a couple of things but it sounds like the refrigerant pressure is not cooling down enough at idle for the AC to stay on, or the ecu doesnt see the fans going and is shutting off the AC system.

It sounds like you don't have enough refrigerant to keep it cool so the AC pulley disengages itself to keep from burning up the motor.

Check the line coming out of the compressor, should be marked D or H somehow. The other should be an S. If the D line is hot then you have poor air flow over your condenser, which is in front of radiator. My guess would either be the fans are working but not very well or there is some debris blocking air flow through condenser. Check these and post back with results.

Ok, my other fan decided to spin up today when I turned my A/C on. Must be one of those problems that fixes itself. Let's hope it stays that way. Anyways. Now that both fans are spinning. My A/C is working fine now. Blowing cool air like it should. I ran the engine for about an hour in my garage. Went inside to do some work and came back out to check to see if the a/c is still blowing cool air. Yup. But then I noticed my temperature guage was back up at about 85% again! Even with both fans spinning, A/C on. What could be the problems? I thought it was the fan. But obviously this overheating issue is being caused by something else and I have no idea what it could be.

Perhaps a bad sensor? Somethings clogged? Bad Thermostat? Now that I ruled out that the problem isn't the fans. It has to be something else causing this.

I have no signs of leaks, Coolant level is between min and max when engine is cool.

my guess would be some debris between the condenser and the radiator That way the air can really get to the condenser (cold a/c) but not the radiator (cool motor) That would be my guess.

thanks shakuya, i will check to see for any signs of debris. But also do you think it could possibly be a bad thermostat or temp sensor?

COnsidering it was doing that while the A/C wasn't working either it's most unlikely but still possible. Check for debris and if it's clean we'll diag from there

shakuya thanks for the tips. I haven't got a chance to do any more testing. However I have a question concerning the fans. Do they run at multiple speeds or just one? I'm thinking it might be the fan again. It may not be running full speed when the needed. If not then has to be something to do with the radiator.

They are 2 speed fans.
