Steering Wheel Shake
Steering Wheel Shake
hmm.. above 68mph my steering wheel begins to shake and gets worse if i drive faster. The steering wheel doesn't shake to violently but it is very noticable. Sometime it feels like one of my wheel is going to fall off.
This just happen recently and I was wondering if you guys every experienced this? And what is the fix or the problem is.
(happens with my stock wheels and with my rims. Lug nuts/wheels are on correctly).

sup rider.
Normally I would agree cause I d0 have a bent rim in the front, but even after putting on my stock rims back on, I have the same problem.

Re: Steering Wheel Shake
Hey bro, That's weird it would happen with both sets of wheels.
Kinda sounds to me like something has gone wrong with a suspension part, or a disk.
Better get her in for a checkup.

Yah I think I'll have the car checked up.
I just came back from the tire shop and had them rebalance my wheels just for kicks. I haven't tested out my car if that fixed the problem yet. If the problem still exist I'll take it to the shop. I guess I should put the stock rims back on so they don't blame the rims (real pain in the butt to put the stock rims back on).

Re: Steering Wheel Shake
DED is probably right (at least according to my gut-o-meter).
Even a bent rim can be balanced properly to keep it from vibrating the steering wheel IF the damage is not too bad. I'd call around and find someone with a Hunter Road Force balancing machine. They'll charge you a little more to do the job, but your problem should go away.
I have had the same problem before with an after market bent rim on my old Accord. I had a shop balance the tire with wheel weights and it was super smooth. I also had the problem on my wife's Sequoia. Tire Kingdom couldn't balance the front left tire properly and the steering wheel shook really bad. I took the Sequoia to Toyota and they fixed it like a champ.
The above statements are only my take on the issue. If you disagree with anything I typed then you are 100% right!

Re: Steering Wheel Shake
Wreck! Long time no see.
-back to the subject....check for alignment. I had shakes on my steering wheel immediately when my corolla was dropped. It only happens at 70mph. My friend told me that it was an alignment issue. I went for an alignment. The steering wheel shakes disappeared. When was the last time you got an alignment after putting the stock 18's on? You used to have 20's like me.

Re: Steering Wheel Shake
dude all corolla steering wheels shake..... that car has shitty suspension period. i tried everything with that damn corolla and finally i gave up. I got new rims, balanced all wheels, and aligned all 4 corners.... to no avail... still vibrates like a **** once above 70mph....

Re: Steering Wheel Shake
surewin,
By any chance did you do a balance and alignment of the corolla? Did you change toe/camber when you dropped?

Sup surewin.
all fixed.. the balancing did the trick. It rides smooth again.
It still stumps me why both my stockers and aftermarket rims were experiencing the same problem. Anyways, I'm glad the problem has been fixed.
