Best way to 300HP?

Ok, so I'm sitting here waiting for my new 04.5 DG 6MT to arrive and I've already started ordering parts. But I can't help thinking about increasing the HP a lil. For right now I'd be pretty satisfied with breaking 300HP at the crank. From everyone's experience what would be the best (and most economical) way to get there? I'm a lil worried about pullies cuz I'm not sure how they will affect the reliability of the car. I'm thinkin maybe K&N drop in, Z-Tube, what's the consensus on the grounding kit?

See every1 at the Aug 14th meet!

Re: Best way to 300HP?

Best way to 300 HP is to go straight to 400rwhp with a full blown G!

Someone help this poor guy out. I'm feeling lazy today.

Cats, Plenum, Pop charger got Neffster 246 at the wheels or 301 at the crank at the infamous Dyno Day in sunny FL.

Re: Best way to 300HP?

there is not general concensus on the boards over grounding kits.... dont ask or u will just pretty much hvae an arguement abuot if they work or not on ur thread.

if u replace ur cats and plenum, that will be the biggest bang for your buck. Cats (or test pipes) with a plenum get very large gains because these are two large bottlenecks int he airflow of the car. exhaust may or may not add a couple of ponies and ur ztube will add probably 3-4 at the wheels. Cats + plenum will get maybe around 15-20 at the wheels and that will put u very close to 300bhp. The next mods for me are a crawford plenum (stay away from kinex) and probably crawford cats. I have seen dynos where exhaust really didnt help much since its not very restrictive. if u get exhaust get it for sound, not for hp gains. btw... cats, plenum, and the ztube will all make your car louder. The ztube is really nice and will sound a lot better at WOT up in high rpm's, but i think (i havent heard them) the cats and plenum will make ur car rumble a lot loudedr at idle and at WOT

Re: Best way to 300HP?

I'm hoping for around 250ish at the wheels when I dyno in two weeks; my mods are:

Pro-1 Intake ($80 - 2-3 WHP)
UR Crank Pulley ($230 - 5-6 WHP, faster revs)
Kinetix V4 Plenum (you can't put your hand on the Crawford after 2+ hrs of hard driving) ($365 - 9-10 WHP throughout rev range)
Helix Test Pipes (soon to be replaced w/ Kinetix TP's w/ Resonators) ($180 - 5-6 WHP)
GReddy Evo II Exhaust ($too much$ - 6-7 WHP, best sound in the world!)
(numbers have been on average what has been shown on independent dynos w/ that specific mod alone - besides exhaust - no N/A dynos yet)

I didn't do a baseline, and I really only care about the final result (250 WHP would put me at around 312 HP at the Crank - my goal is 320 N/A, and I'll see if I can get there w/ a Technosquare Reflash)

Just kinda FYI to show you what I've done and I feel like everything I've put on my car has shown gains in one way or another, so I'm pretty happy with the end result - for now.... (until F/I of course)

Wow thanks for all the help guys....Now, I'm kinda sorta knowledgeable about cars, but wtf is a plenum??? I have NEVER heard of that before. Maybe it's something I know of just never heard it called that before.

God....forgive me for my ignorance

Re: Best way to 300HP?

The plenum is located on the very top of the engine. It distributes the intake air among the cylinders. This is the site for Crawford, which offers one of the aftermarket performance plenums. They also have some decent explanations on the site. http://www.crawfordzcar.com/

Re: Best way to 300HP?

The crawford plenum (or kinetix) will not get you 9-10 throughout the rev range. You'll be very lucky to get that at peak.

Re: Best way to 300HP?

Isn't it also referred to as an upper intake manifold?

They are saying the '05's 295hp(+/-) is just new programing. Not bolt one changes.

I'd say go Vortech, or ATI ProCharger!

Re: Best way to 300HP?

Ask around but I think you need an ECU flash if you get the plenum and cats.

Re: Best way to 300HP?

It's the upper intake manifold "cover".

Plenum is the condition of the space under the cover.

\Ple"num\, n. (Ventilation)
A condition, as in an occupied room, in which the pressure of
the air is greater than that of the outside atmosphere; as, a
plenum may exist in a hall ventilated by a fan blower.

Which is not necessarily true, unless you have FI

Upper intake is the six little runner holes you see when you pull off the cover.

Re: Best way to 300HP?

go look at the hundreds of dynos of plenums on my350z.com - they have shown gains from as little as 5 to as much as 15 HP across the band... and the first time the Kinetix was dynoed, it gained almost 20 AT PEAK! So think what you want, but what I "know" is that the stock plenum design is flawed and these aftermarket products address that... and the result is an increase in airflow consistently across all cylinders resulting in an increase in HP across the band and esp. at peak... an ECU reflash will take even more advantage of this by tailoring your ECU to accomodate the increase in airflow by adjusting the A/F ratio... I could go on and on, but I'll leave it at that...
