Fan behaviour, can someone please confirm

I have an 04 coupe. I think one of my fans are acting up. Can somebody please confirm if both fans are suppose to spin when you turn on your AC? [updated: yes both fans are suppose to immediately kick in full speed as soon as you turn your a/c on]

Also with the AC off and the engine running at idle for about 30-40 minutes. Are both fans suppose to turn on when the temperature gets hot? I ran a few tests and notice that sometimes the passenger side fan is spinning on and off every 5 minutes or so and turning off, while the driver side fan is spinning but very slowly and sometimes is completely off. I tried bangin around the area of the fan and it started to spin up.

I believe that the fans have 2 speeds, high and low. But for some reason my fans are acting very weird. There seems to be some sort of delay before the fans start spinning when I turn on my a/c, Sometimes only one fan will spin and the other fan will start up maybe 10 seconds after. And at other times when I turn the a/c both fans would turn on at the same time.

On the g35's are both fans suppose to be spinning for as long as the A/C is on? Because I notice with mines they spin and turn off and turn on again. Is this normal behaviour?

I tried banging on the plastic housing that holds the fan with a hammer and then i notice the fan started to spin up again, also the speed seem to spin faster after I hit the housing with the hammer. I am guessing its the fan motor.

Would appreciate if some of you guys can run some tests for me if its not too much trouble. I would like to diagnose the problem myself rather than taking it to a dealership or mechanic to save money.

Not sure if my fan motor is bad or maybe it needs oil?

I just got this code today "P1217" (Engine Coolant Temperature) I don't know what is going on either. Are there any techs that have delt with this problem before. The Engine totally overheats. I don't know what is up.
nyckid, I am in the same boat with you. I will be contacting Infiniti tomorrow.

johnblaze, let me know if they find out the problem... Also how did you find out what code it gave you? Did you take it to the dealer or something?

also if you can, run some tests like i did... try starting the engine, turn your a/c on, and see if both fans spin up... and let it run for about 30 minutes... do the fans turn on and off or do they remain on always for as long as the a/c is running?

Mine shuts off and starts back up again... the passenger one that is, but the driver side fan seems to spin nonstop.

Let me know if this is normal behaviour in your car, if it is. then at least we know our fans are working properly.

Good luck and keep me posted.

I figured out the code when I hooked up my Bullydog. It reads off the SES codes and you can reset the codes.

If you live in the area (Bay Area), I can give you mine for free. They work perfectly fine, I just got a new radiator and fan assembly.

I wish I was in this case. I am interested in the fans nonetheless, are you willing to ship?

There is a low setting and a high setting. I believe both should operate simultaneously at all times with the stock setup.

If you are running hot it might be a good opportunity to upgrade the radiator with the fans. Just an option...but the fans should be easy to find from a wrecked G as well.

Mine had the same problems or similar ones.

My Driver's side low doesn't work and the passenger side runs when the plastic housing is tapped with something.

I'm going to be replacing mine this weekend I think.

I just got all this info today so good thing I found your thread!!!

Will update once my fans are replaced. Has anyone decided on which fans to go with? I'm looking between OEM vs. FlexALite vs. Maradyne
