Putting a smaller crank pulley on with your Vortech will LOWER your boost levels. Some people go with a larger crank pulley to increase the boost, while leaving the SC's pulley the same. This lowers the chance of belt slip.

what about changing the stock pulleys on the VQ to lightweight pulleys? Will that have any negative effect when combined with the Vortech?

you should stick with the stock crank pulley or a balanced & dampened pulley (ATI or Fluidampr).

well, as far as i know, the stock vortech pulley is a 3.33. when i had my vortech, i had a 3.12 with intentions to move down to a 2.87.

ANY PULLEY lower than the stock 3.33 will leave you with the risk of overspinning the bearings in the blower (i found that out the hard way, and exposed vortech to a lie)

OP can you confirm which pulley you are referring to? The crank pulley or the serpentine pulley?

What lie have you exposed concerning Vortech. I'm planning to upgrade to the 2.87 pulley, now you got me weary about such. Expand on you statement (insightful).

stock pulley for non-revups is the 3.33
stock pulley for revups is 3.125

the blower is the same. you'll overspin with a 2.875 pulley even if you only go to the non-revup redline. you'll most likely stay under 53k RPMs with the 3.125 depending on your redline.

So, then how would I go about trying to obtain more horsepower without upgrading to the 2.87 pulley, If the aforementioned statement's are valid regarding the blower, then, I'm not trying to blow-out my blower.

All my goal is 400hp. I am currently at 370WHP. Alternatively I was going to purchased the 928 impeller using it with my current 3.12, but won't that take surpass my goal of 400HP?

that'll be a tough question to answer without knowing anything about your kit or other mods.

Vortech SC V3 + 3.12 + 440 Injectors + Stillen HFC and Gen II Exhaust + Stillen Oil Cooler + B&M Tranny cooler and one step colder spark plug, etc. Soon to be upgrading to 2.87 and 600 CC's injectors, car will be hitting 400. I can't wait. also beefing up the tranny at level ten with upgraded wet clutch packs and valve body upgrade (not Transgo shift kit) Been their done that.

You and I have similar mods and are at the same power level. My car made 408whp when I the 2.87 pulley on so it should get you there. I'd check with your tuner beforehand, however, as the 2.87 creates a good amount of boost. If its in the budget, I'd seriously think about throwing on some headers before you swap pulleys. You may find that you'll reach your goal while sticking with a comparatively 'safer' setup.
