turbo or an intercooler. Will I see any gains because my engine would be cooler or no?

Not to be mean or anything but read up on the subject of Forced Induction for automobiles and you will realize how silly your question is.

Isn't that what a radiator does? Or did I miss something...
Now if you are going on looks alone, I'd say slap one on. Until you actually start it up, your car will have at least 500hp.

I don't think that it's a silly question.
If you were able to cool the air going into your intake (cooler than the outside air in most cases) you would see a significant performance gain denser air = more O2 to burn. The problem is that it would take engine power to cool the air. You'd basically be running an air conditioner (without the fan) off of your engine which would offset most of the gains that the cool air would give you.
Now in my understanding of it all... tech heads correct me on this if I am way off... an intercooler becomes much more valuable when used with a supercharger or turbocharger because the sc and the turbo bring heated air to the cars intake. The mechanisms themselves produce significant heat. The intercooler will improve reliability because it brings the air back to normal operating temperatures and it to a degree increases HP because the cooler air is denser.

Using an intercooler alone doesn't make sense to me. If you put a cone filter on the intake side of the intercooler, you'd just be sending ambient air to the engine. I don't see an advantage at all. It would be an expensive SAI... Same Air Intake.
On the other hand, turbos and superchargers compress air, thereby heating it up. Pumping that compressed/heated air through an intercooler cools it off some, with very little loss of compression. The intercooled/compressed air is then fed into the engine, resulting in a denser air/fuel charge for more power. That is where the intercooler advantage comes into play.. Make any sense?

Yes. thanks for explaining and sorry if anybody thought the question stupid. I wasn't going to do it. I was just wondering.

Hey_Ya: No, a radiator is used to cool down the water/coolant mix that runs throughout your engine. An intercooler is used to cool down intake air.

There really are no silly questions, provided they are sincere. True, you could have undertaken to do your own lengthy research, but it's probably faster to ask a question here... assuming you can tolerate the occasional pot-shot from the peanut gallery. Take care.

Re: Any point of having an intercooler without a.....
No. Pressure drop will kill any gains. Intercoolers on their own by design hurt performance, but charged air makes up for it (assuming the system is efficient).
Re: Any point of having an intercooler without a.....
Agree exactly with what winw said. An intercooler with a N/A setup would cool down the intake air some but then it would also slow down the velocity or air flow since now you are throwing in a longer distacne to the throttle body and more channels. And thus the pressure drop. So there really is no point running an intercooler on a N/A setup. An F/I setup is differnent since you are cramming much more air with a turbine.

Hey_ya: My bad. I just misunderstood your post in relation to the original poster. I thought that you thought that the radiator is used to cool air. My mistake. After reading it again I now see what you meant.
