A couple weeks ago I started to hear a weird cluttering noise from my 6MT coupe. Soon after my "Service Engine Soon" light came on so I took it to my local dealer for service. They said the light came on from a bad timing solenoid and they replaced it. I picked my car up last night, and on my way home that noise was still there, but the engine light was off. Just now, I was driving it home and the engine light came on again. On my way up a hill today the clutter sound would come only when I was on the throttle. Once I would lift my foot up it would go away. But sometimes I can hear it even at idle. I told the dealer to drive my car around to hear the noise, and they said they didn't hear anything, which is BS because it's very obvious. I have another appt. set for wednesday but I want to see what you guys think. Does anyone know what this is? Bad clutch? Bad transmission? I really think it's the tranny because there is no clutter sound if I'm in neutral. I can try to get a sound clip if that would help.

I am only familiar with the cluttering noise that comes from the rear axle.

 

Have you not learned anything yet?

You HAVE to drive with the service techs, they never hear anything if you let them drive alone.

Why would they BS and say they don't hear anything though? They're getting paid to fix it anyway.

They BS and say they don't hear it because most of them don't know what they're doing. They can't go back to the Service Manager and say they don't know how to fix it. That's not an excuse, they will be fired. So instead, they say they don't hear anything and that there is no problem.

 

Well tomorrow I take it in. I'm going to ask for the service manager and make sure he hears it.
