Broken MAF Housing

Hi all, when I installed the Stillen intake onto my K&N typhoon CAI I noticed that one of the plastic ears on the MAF was cracked...it appears to have just broken on its own...or maybe it was a week spot...in any case my servicing dealer is not going to warranty it b/c they feel Infiniti will not pay them for it...I asked what this comment was based on and all I got was a bunch of mumbo jumbo about Infiniti never paying for anything and Infiniti putting a team of engineers into looking at the part and assuming it was done by me or a mod I must have done...at this point I needed to leave the dealership for fear of losing my temper.

All I know is that this part cracked...why, I don't know, but why is it such a big deal to warranty this part? Does Nissan not have the money to replace a part that must cost them...what...$25 to actually make??? the sad thing is all I need is the housing...not the actual sensor.

Anyway, enough griping, I apologize...Does anyone know where to get the OEM MAF housing or a complete MAF Sensor/Housing for a good price?

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Re: Broken MAF Housing

Maybe one of the guys that did a CAI here or on the Z forums can send you theirs. Or, you could check for a wreck in your area, but not many available so far I suspect.

Re: Broken MAF Housing

All CAIs reuse and require the MAF Gordgee. I thought about the wrecks at the local junk yards, but I doubt any Gs have made it there yet.

Re: Broken MAF Housing

I thought some of the CAIs just have a place to plug the MAF into?

Oh, well. Maybe I'm just tired. Had to do some packing for the road and clean up all the crap that blew into my pool during the storm last night, and shock it so I can go on vacation tomorrow. Don't want to come back to a cloudy green pool (don't ask).

Good luck with your search John.

Re: Broken MAF Housing

You mean one of the two screw tabs that mount the actual MAF sensor on the MAF housing, is broken? Man, I think that means a new MAF sensor, that's gonna hurt $$. Of course I hope I'm wrong.

Here's my reworked K&N 350Z Typhon, I'm certain it mounts the MAF sensor the same way as the G35 Typhon. One things for sure, you have to insulate that tube, trust me on that.

Re: Broken MAF Housing

I just re-read the original post. I think Gsedan is right. You need a new MAF sensor. I pictured the wrong part.

An option might be to build up a new mount with one of those epoxy plastic putty products, but I'm not sure if it would work in this application.

Re: Broken MAF Housing

Luckily you are wrong...the ear I am referring to is one of the 4 mounting locations on that MAF Housing. The Sensor itself, and the two screws that mount it to the MAF Housing are 100% A-OK.

I just did that insullation two weeks ago on Typhoon intake tube as well. :-)

Re: Broken MAF Housing

If I remember correctly, the Nismo CAI I had on my Z had a metal housing for the MAF...but maybe I'm just dreaming this up (so don't get your hopes up)...does anyone know for sure? I'll check in my garage and see if I have that part. I know I still have the old airbox from the Z.

If you don't hear from me by tomorrow, PM me and remind me.

Re: Broken MAF Housing

Well, I looked in a few places but couldn't find it. I was almost certain that it had a metal housing but that was just the part that connected to the housing (see pic, not my old Z btw) but for some reason I still thought I had to take the MAF out.

I don't know how MacGyver you are feeling but I was able to find:

-stock G airbox
-stock Z airbox
-stock G intake tube
-two oem filters
-misc screws, bolts, and clamps

don't know what you could do with those, but let me know if you want any of it. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Re: Broken MAF Housing

I actually have all the stock stuff too...but at this point I am giving my servicing dealer one more day to make a 5 minute decision on whether to help me or not, then it's on to my dealer where I bought the car an hour away...if no luck there...what comes around goes around if ya smell what the rock is cookin!

I will just epoxy it at that point and call it a day...the car is running fine right now so no big deal...I can even take black silicone and run a bead around the whole MAF housing to make the seal against the Stillen Airbox perfect.

And again, than you very much for looking through all that stuff...that was not necessary and very much appreciated!
