Tranny Problem?

when my 03 Coupe 6speed idles you can hear what is a rattle. It started out quiet and only rattled every once and a while, now it is rattling all the time. how ever driving always fixed the rattle. The rattle now is rattling from 2,000 all the way to 3,000 rpms.

just need some feed back on what could be the cause and what will fix it.

Without actually hearing the sound I can provide info on possible causes only, but if this car is still using the stock dual-mass flywheel, it is possible that the noise is the result of a broken internal dampner within the unit. This would allow the two halves of the flywheel to effectively backlash against each other thus causing a rattle.

In order for me to provide more info I need to know when this noise occurs. Is it during engagement or disengagement of the clutch? Does it occur when sitting still while revving the motor? Let me know and we can proceed from there. Thanks,

yes it rattles when just revving. I can push the clutch in and it still rattles. I have been thinking it was the fly wheel for a while.

So it rattle with the clutch depressed and released? That is unusual. If it were bearing related it would go away when the pedal was depressed. But, if there were an issue with the flywheel, since it has two halves, one that is bolted to the crank and one that is bolted to the clutch it would be possible for this to cause the rattle you mention. We offer a Steel and Aluminum Single-mass flywheel for the G/Z. If you are concerned with having a little noise as possible then I would suggest the Steel option. If you have any questions about this just let me know. Thanks!

I know the steel is heavier but which would you recommend? Can I get a quote on both? It's not like the noise bothers me, I just know that the car didn't do it originally and its doing it now so it must be bad. the car does have 80,000 miles on it so I guess the parts of the clutch are needing to be replaced anyway...

you ever think about your exhaust rattling undering 2k rpm with your foot on the gas would cause something to rattle. same thing happends on my car and its has only 26k miles its an 06.
