Lack of Power, Dealer Says Nothing Wrong...
2005 G35 Coupe 6mt, 30k miles
I've owned the car for just a few months and it's still under warranty. The more I drive it the more I think that I'm lacking power. If I shift at 6,000 RPM into 2nd gear I don't chirp. When shifting from 1st to 2nd at redline I don't break traction at all. Shouldn't I be?
The car doesn't pull my head back like I feel it should. In the test drive I didn't really notice because it only lasted a couple minutes and, well, it's a test drive. I haven't owned the car for years, at that point I didn't have a great feel for it.
I really just want to get a better idea of whether or not I have a problem. Should I break traction shifting from 1st to 2nd under WOT at redline?
I took it to Infiniti, they say it feels fine. A friend of mine who is a new (keyword NEW) tech @ Infiniti drove it and says it doesn't feel as fast as it should be but he thinks it's my clutch. I don't have any issues at all with a slipping clutch, although one problem I've experienced when launching from a stop is the clutch pedal sticking for about 3/4 of a second. But it's only ever happened when launching from a stop... related?
Given the facts, does it sound like there's a definite problem? If so, any ideas as to what?

Spinning the tires is not an indication of power. If that was the case, then my mostly 90 CRX Si would have been considered fast because it would roast the tires in 1st, spin the 1-2 shift, and bark the 2-3.
Your G is RWD, most likely has pretty sticky rubber, and you live in a warm/hot climate. All these factors will keep the tires from spinning dramatically. Your clutch could be a little worn which would lessen the initial bite on the shift. The hot climate can also be affecting power. For every 10 degree increase in temp over 40 degrees, you're loosing about 1% power. Finally, you've got a "revup" VQ. They have less low and midrange power than the standard VQ35 found in the 03/04 6MTs so the Revup will feel a bit softer, especially in 1st and early in 2nd. That motor really doesn't come alive until about 5000rpms. If you want more low and midrange power, then look into the Motordyne MREV/spacer setup.
In the summer, my 03 5AT will only spin my aftermarket 18s with Pirelli rubber about 5' before hooking up. When the temps dip below 70 degrees or I'm on my OEM 17s, it will roast the tires through 1st.
