Went to Infiniti today and they changed my oil. Oil level was real low. It was at the bottom tip of the dip stick. So Infiniti wants me to go back after 1k miles and measure how much oil burned. Then after another 1k, do the same thing. Then one last time and determine the solution from there.....what sucks is that i live an hour and a half away.

I never said anything about replacing the motor....u think they will due to the consumption? Ive had to add 2 quarts since the last oil change and it was still low at the tip at the dip stick.

I totally agree, I was more or less saying that it was "my" solution. I had an internal bearing failure. This is unusual. I had the startup noise issue and a bearing failure, but this doesn't necessarily mean that everyone with the startup noise issue has a serious engine issue.

Just a quick note to everyone else out there, I have about ~850mi on my new engine (still in break-in) and I have heard that engine clank startup noise once, even with the brand new engine. It was less severe and only happened once, but it happened on my new engine. The fluid levels are all normal.

I am suspecting that it could very well be a fairly normal VQ35DE noise. However, if you notice from my video I posted to youtube, there were also other irregularities to my idle noise and that gargling sort of noise that it made on the later startups in the video.

I also noticed with my old engine I heard a faint squeak at only 3,800-4,000k rpms which was probably from the failed engine bearing.

So if you are out of warranty and you have the noise, don't freak out so quickly. I'm sure your engine will live for quite a while longer. The service rep from infiniti confirmed that as well, saying that it would eventually have knocking issues and a rough idle, but it would have lived a while longer had it not been replaced.

But if you have warranty, go get it checked out if you can.

(as a side note, my new problem with my G is my front right wheel hub bearing failed, edit: and my rear axel click is now back again, *sigh* FML )

Did they ever diagnose the noise? I recently became a G owner. 05 sedan 6mt 12k
I hear the noise on a cold start and I also hear the clank/clunk/rattle when i shut down.

No, they never did diagnose where the noise came from definitively. I showed the video to the service consultant and he brought a tech in to watch it with me. We speculated it could be the timing chain clanking during startup from a lack of initial tension from the timing chain tensioners.

In my case there were a lot of metal fragments in my oil pan from a failed engine bearing so that was a large piece of the puzzle.

If you have 12k miles (and not actually 120k) then you should definitely take it in to the dealership for a look, as it should be covered under warranty.

The startup noise is somewhat common but the clank clank rattle on shutdown is unusual. It could be knocking, or something a little more serious. Are you running high quality gas in your G?

Bump this up as well. I made a thread about my own problems. Maybe you can chime in Mobbin. I changed the oil and found that there was metal in it, like ALOT of metal pieces. I guess my problem now is that i changed the oil so they obviously wont find any metal now. What do you suggest i do?

Now if I could only get rid of the interior creeks and squeaks that come and go. I see alot of people have this problem. i shoulda bought a IS or 3

The lexuses have just as many squeaks and problems as ours. I know many people with 350z/g35 that don't have any squeaks or noises. Mine is one of them. Not a single noise anywhere.

If you push the clutch in and that noise doens't happen then it's the friction plate rattling on the pressure plate when you shut down. By pushing on the clutch as you shut down you are just taking up the slack therefore stopping it from rattling. Car sounds like it is mechanically ok.

Well here's the update on my G...the last two 1000 mile checkups weren't done the proper way through the Infiniti dealership in Union City, GA. I was told by South Motor Infiniti in Miami,Fl that my last 2 oil consumption tests weren't proper procedures. So South Motors topped me off again and after my 1000 miles, I will go back to Union City and provide the reference they have to abide by given to me by SM, so they can do the shyt right.

What pisses me off is that I blew 2k miles with it being documented the right way. I'm not sure if they were trying to screw me or what but I don't like my time wasted dealing with morons

ive been having this rattle at start up issue for about 2yrs lol, but i always make sure my oil is leveled. They never found anything at the dealership. And i bought an extended warranty, but since i change my own oil the dealer requires some kind of proof from me, that i change my oil at the right time, which i dont have. So i believe im fu%ked. Atleast its been working fine but the OC issue is crazy. My sedan is a 03 6mt with 74k miles. I still dont know whats the cause. Engine build or swap coming is my next move.

Well, 1000 miles is approaching. I'm going to see those knuckleheads at Infiniti today. Hope they do things right this time.
