Hotchkis Problems and Solutions

OK The sways were installed last week and then last night coming home they sounded like the were bouncing off the exhaust. My car sounded like crap over anything uneven.

So my mechanic says that the front bar link (not where the attachment is but the link kit) was coming loose and apparently does not attach the way the stock bar does. He tightened this down and says it's fine except for some minor squeaking.

I am surprised that there are not new link kits with the Hotckis. All i had were new bushings - what did you guys get with yours??

Re: Hotchkis Problems and Solutions

I'd like to know why the mechanic said

"and apparently does not attach the way the stock bar does."

I want to understand what drew him to that kind of conclusion. No aftermarket sway for the G or Z comes with end links.

Here's a link to a company that can make custom end links (even custom sway bars for that matter).

Re: Hotchkis Problems and Solutions

Great link - i have contacted them and inquired about a custom link - do you live near them or have the link?. Not sure but wouldn't the setup work better with end links.

I think what my mechanic (Bill) was trying to say was the end links are missing, thus a different way of attachment for the Hotchkis.

No one else had this problem?

Re: Hotchkis Problems and Solutions

I have not heard of this problem and did not experience anything other than a perfect fit when installing mine. I was not happy to reuse some of the hardware but thats the way it is. I don't like the squeak but if you grease the hell out of them it goes away...only ot return a few days later.

You might try a silicone based grease if you haven't already. I've had mine on for a few months now and not a peep.

Re: Hotchkis Problems and Solutions

the Hotchkis sways that we installed on Rever's G came with silicon lube. I don't remember any issues, other than needing a 17mm wrench that was not called for in the instructions, and chasing down the bolts and clips to put the splash covers back on.

Re: Hotchkis Problems and Solutions

there was a batch from the factory that didn't have the grease in the box. I was thinking that some may have just put the sways in without.

I didn't have any install issues with mine either.

SixFive, your welcome for the pic, Sanner is located in Florida, I'm in California. I do have pics of my ram air, but I don't want to mess with your topic, I'll pm them to you.

Re: Hotchkis Problems and Solutions

Im changing my oil this weekend and decided to do my hotchkis sways at the same time since it'll b on ramps. My sways was a batch that didnt come with any lube. Any type of silicon based lube is fine? And do I need to take off the rims to install or having the G on ramps is fine enough ?

Re: Hotchkis Problems and Solutions

Like Ted said, no problems with my sways....other than needing a 17mm wrench that Hotchkis forgot to mention. Check the Hotchkis website, they tell you that the grease should not be xxxxxx based. Sorry, forgot the material. Other than that just grease the hell out of them and enjoy the ride.

Re: Hotchkis Problems and Solutions

After going over to the shop after work I realized what he was trying to say is that there are is no link kit as with the stocks. The link kit or lack of it is in no way the reason or suggested reason for the problem.

What went wrong is the front bar worked itself loose as 40# of torque was not enough. It was rattling and also clunking anytime weight shfited from one side to the other. He tightened them back down himself rather than let his hourly do it and all is well again. They are fine now other than some noise which my dealer who is installing my brakes right now will provide grease on the bushings -free of charge. So glad they dumped the old service advisor.

Now if I can just keep the squeaking and creaking away I will be diggin these things.

Re: Hotchkis Problems and Solutions

Not one peep or squeek from mine. Love 'em...best bang-for-the-buck mod yet. If you don't want to drop the front bar brackets to re-grease the bushings, why not drill and tap a zerk fitting into the front bracket just like the rear.
