Alright i bought a 04 sedan motor to put in my coupe, now i know the sedan has less power, but is it just intake and exhaust thats different? And can i use my stock ecu and harness. Im puting my coupe plenum on and my intake and dual exhaust so will that bump the power to the rated 287 hp from the factory. thx

I vaguely remember reading that the ECU's only work with the motor they were originally on. Don't know if that's true though.

The 04 Sedan's hp is rated at 260 but there is no difference in power/engine. Intakes/Plenums are the same. I beleive you can put the coupe's mid pipe on the Sedan to give more of a growl.. I dont think the muffler will fit on the sedan.

I dont know the answer to your ECU questions but I wouldnt bother changing it.

well i have a coupe, and im putin a sedan motor in the coupe. SO its the same thing then, i just wanted to make sure they are identical. WEll i think the hp is loss in the exhaust.

im guessing the ECU and Tune is what makes the difference

If they are both vq35's, they are good to go. ECU's wont differ if they are both same type motors; revup/nonrevup

ECU might be different (only on early sedans...2003) but that shouldn't change anything

As for the HP rating numbers, most of that is DRIVETRAIN loss, and if they are both 6MT there is no difference. People who bought COUPEs just wanted to think they were getting more power.

No actually we bought the because they look hot and the sedan looks like my pops should be driving it.

and we bought them because they are lighter and faster than your coupes.

If your pops drives something this hot I like him. And I'm still faster than the coupe!!

same motor, same intake, same manifolds, diff exhaust.....prolly a diff tune.

Coupe/Sedan, it's all a driver's race in a real world situation. Take it from someone who see's the track on a regular basis with numbers from different years, auto, 6MT, ETC. I'm not talking about those street racing ricer rolls either. A 100lb difference in a 3300-3500 lb car isn't going to take seconds off a 1/4 mile time.


Back to subject.

The long blocks between the two are essentially identical. Some sensors and may have been slightly different depending on the year. Make sure you have the original motor ready to pull the original sensors and brackets out from in case the ones on the new motor don't work.
