Squeaky Noise from Passenger Side
Squeaky Noise from Passenger Side
Hi. I apologize for a long post in advance, but I really need some help and wanted to provide as much detail as possible.
I have a G35C, 6MT, and not even at 5K yet. This past Sunday I started hearing a weird squeaking noise coming from the passenger side. I could hear it with all windows closed, but with passenger window open it was really loud. If I just push the break pedal a little bit, the noise dissappears. At first, I thought it was the breaks and I still do, but there are a couple of weird things there.
Once the car cooled off for about 5 hours (same day), I drove it in the evening for about an hour and there was no noise at all. I hate things like that and was very concerned, so I took it to Ray Catena in NJ on Tuesday and left it with them for a day. They called me back and said they did not find anything wrong or hear any noises. They asked me to come back on Wednesday for a test drive with them. Sure enough, no more noise.
I take the car to work (about 40 miles) and then drive back home. Nothing. Until about 5 miles from the house, when I drive 40 miles an hour. The noise comes back. I start driving around a bit and figure out that the noise starts only at 25 miles an hour and I just cannot hear it past 40.
This concerns me a lot, becuase I have no idea what it could be. I have to go to Cape Cod this weekend and afraid to drive the car such distance without knowing what it is. I don't know if taking it to the dealer will help, because the noise my not appear again.
Please help!

Squeaky noise from the passenger side? Is my spouse riding with you?
Seriously, I would be willing to bet on the brakes, which are notoriously noisy. (Brembo is Italian for "Expensive Brakes that Squeek.") If you want to assure yourself this is true, wash your wheels/brakes thoroughly. I occasionally spray them with an all-purpose wheel cleaner and scrub as much as I can reach with a toothbrush. If the noise stops and doesn't come back for 200-300 miles, it's "normal" brake noise.
Note - be careful to use a MILD wheel cleaner on the brakes/wheels, something formulated for painted wheels. Apparently it's easy to damage these wheels using the wrong (strong) cleaner.

Next time you hear it, pull up slightly on the parking brake - I'll bet it goes away. I have the same thing and it's driving me nuts. There is a service bulletin out regarding warpage of the right rear rotor...I'd think we'd hear it all the time, but who knows...

Re: Squeaky Noise from Passenger Side
I may know exactly what this problem is. I have a feeling the parking brake won't effect it at all. If it is intermittant, sounds kind of metallic and similar to the sould of a break pad wear indicator, then I know what it is. It is a defective right rear brake rotor. The rotor is out of round. The brake pads are shifting and traveling up and down to make the squeel as a result. I had this problem with my coupe. It took 5 trips to the dealer to figure it out. They replaced the rear brakes and it is great now. It seems to be common on early 04's.

Re: Squeaky Noise from Passenger Side
Just wanted to give an update. It has been almost 2 months now and I still hear the noise. It seems to come on only after driving in stop-and-go traffic for more than 30 minutes or so. Maybe the brakes and rotors get hotter during that time, I don't know. I am taking it to the dealer again on Wednesday, because it is even louder now at 7500 miles. I'll give an update as soon as it is out.

Can someone please post a link to the bulletin regarding the right rear rotor? I have the same problem, but I want to have something to take to my dealer.

Another updated... Got my car back from Circle Infiniti (NJ) last night and what they basically said is that there was losseness in rear axle nuts. They re-torqued them and I should not have the problem anymore.
I think that this is what most people here complained about and that was the resolution for them. But, I still cannot understant why would I hear squeaky noise from the passenger front brake once the rotors and pads are really hot. I haven't heard the noise again yet, but I guess I'll drive like that for awhile and see if it comes back or not.
Their service dept. is great. I had an extremely good experience so far.
