Re: TOP 5: Sedans and Coupes

Someone needs to do the mod of a stroker kit and see how much hp they get out of that, and someone else needs to do a mode of porting and polishing the engine.

Re: TOP 5: Sedans and Coupes

Exagorazo,
Here's to answer you're concerns ...

In reply to:

I am confused over what appears to be some very inconsistent data published here.

This is indeed the case here, since we have a wide variety of Dynamometer (DynoJet, DynaPack, Bosch Dyno, Mustang Dyno, etc.) used here. They are not to be compared directly unless a known good conversion factor is used. Even then, it's best not to play the 'conversion' game. This is the very reason why we are pointing out the type of Dynamometer that was used for the particular measurement. Regrettably, the ranking system is flawed in this sense. Blame SoCalTed for creating it ... LOL ... J/K Ted!!!

In reply to:

Based on everything I have read, N/A engines seem to peak out at about 250 WHP, although I haven't seen one with all possible N/A mods dynoed yet.

Yes, that was my understanding as well. Although from my own research, this theoretical n.a. limit is closer to 260rwhp on a DynoJet with an assortment of bolt-on mods that does not include cam-shafts. I also agree, I've yet seen a solid dyno chart of anyone w. all the bolt-ons, so the limit remains largely theoretical at this point ... that is until I started to add mods and dyno my car. I do now of another individual, a fellow 350Z owner (Patrick), who was at the last SoCal Dyno Day and managed 257rwhp on a DynoJet.

His mods include the followings:
-Borla TD Exhaust
-JWT Pop-Charger
-Kinetix Intake Plenum (v.3. at the time)
-Kinetix High Flow Cats
-UR Crank Pulley

In reply to:

How is it possible that one N/A sedan would dyno 10% higher than other N/A sedans, especially when 1/4 mile times do not seem to support the higher measured HP?

"How?" ... is tough to answer. I'm quite amused myself, but it is none-the-less what I've got from the TWO different dyno types and places. So at this point, I'll take the "believe it while still true" stance Rather than doing so blindly, however, you might try reading my reasoning to 'Tery' (several post above this one), who has similar concern as you (and understandably so from many others as well).

With respect to the seemingly low 1/4-mile ET ... well, a couple of people have already correctly pointed out the cause of the environmental conditions of the particular drag strip we used. LACR is significantly above sea level at ~2700ft. It is very sandy, which is not desirable from traction stand point of view. It is also almost always accompanied with a cross/head-wind. In any case, my ET has evolved quite remarkably from 15.3 @ 91.x mph when bone-stock to now 14.685 @95.6mph w. the latest mods. We'll certainly make all attempts to locate a more ideal drag strip for better visuals.

I sure hope that clears up all of the ambiguities. And believe me; no one in their right mind would have believed what we're witnessing here. We just might be on to something here. Again, once I'm done adding the DC headers ... I'll also have the car dyno'd at a DynoJet place, so we no longer need to assume the 10-15hp conversion factor from DynaPack to DynoJet.

Cheers,

Clint (THX723)

Re: TOP 5: Sedans and Coupes

Here's to stir up the pot even more! Heh heh.

I just got done with my post-Test Pipe dyno session today. The chart is Here

The gains were *very significant* across the board. This explains why I improved on the average 0.1s and 1mph in the standing 1/4-mile compare to my previous best. Frankly, this is getting to be a bit ridiculous folks, but it is none-the-less what I'm getting at the pape both at dyno and track. I can't wait to finish the header install, so I can cross-reference on a DynoJet.

Re: TOP 5: Sedans and Coupes

Sure. I have the Mustang Dyno chart/quarter mile run on the Dyno. (On 20's). I will scan it and post it shortly. (It is at another house of mine that I stay at on the weekends). At the track, I will have to look around for my slip. This has been about 4 months ago, but I will never forget my best run, hence why I posted it. (This was ran on my stock 18's, with SO-3's tires) 60ft time was somewhere b/w (1.9-2.2). (A bit lighter than on the Iforged 20's). Hopefully the Ford Mustang Dyno pull/run will show you. Again, it is not hard to pull good numbers with F/I or on the bottle. (I am running a Zex (wet kit) 100 shot).
