Throttle body cleaning
Took a chance and cleaned my throttle bodies today on my 08 g35 journey sedan. Used some crc spray and some rags and paper towel. Didnt disconnect any electronics. Moved valves moderately with fingers to clean.
Car throttle response was iffy, was getting rpm drop at red lights and warm start ups. After cleaning didnt experience any high idle. Car ran beautifully. No more rough idle or poor response. Such an easy easy procedure not sure how you could possibly mess this up, just be careful when reconnecting all air intake parts to make sure its tight.

So there's mixed reviews on this. Some say it's easy, some come back with horror stories. Where's the DIY for this? I found one but I think it's for sedans?

^To be safe disconnect the battery, then the plugs going to the throttle body. Clean the TB and hook everything back up. Disconnecting the battery first will prevent having to do all of the relearning procedures. Some people like doing the pedal method to reset the ECU, I just let the car relearn itself by driving it.
Is this procedure different than the throttle body relearn procedure
Yes, throttle position reset lets the ECU know the exact position of the throttle body valve, the idle air one needs to be performed once the motor is up to temperature and is an algorithm the ECU uses to set idle point.

Hmm
Awesome thank you. The instructions seem a little confusing unfortunately, do you have any videos that you know of?

Any luck
my G35x is doing basically the same thing, did you ever resolve this issue? Mine came right after I cleaned the throttle body without disconnecting anything 😳
As a former Maxima owner, this was a common thing to deal with. Best way to do it is to turn the key to "run", then use a stick to push down the gas pedal and hold it there while cleaning. Manually moving the throttle plate, no matter how gently, risks stripping the gears in the throttle body that open and close the throttle plate. Do it this way, no need to do a relearn, no risk of damage. You can also have someone in the car using the gas pedal to open and close the throttle as needed.
I think that method only works for the HR motor, I know that my rev-up does NOT open the throttle body with the key on and the pedal floored. Completely agree about working the butterfly by hand, the motor is just too susceptible to damage.

Engine degreaser is for the OUTSIDE of the engine.
