Just had the stall raised to 2700......
I have an 03 G coupe 5AT, and this mod has made a big difference, I can now lay down some rubber without the ECU trying to stop me.
But do I "need" a cooler??
This car is a daily driver. I don't track the car or beat on it, I just play every once in awhile.

cato: I had my stock torque converter modified to a 2700rpm stall or lock up
petrog35: Only if your racing, but I thought it was a shame to have a 280hp engine and you can't effectively lay down some rubber, but now I can get into the engines power band more effectively and with the right take off not spin the tires, but get down the road much faster.

According to page AT-244 in the 03 sedan shop manual, the stall speed is 2600-2900 rpm. The stall test procedure can be found on pages AT-51 to AT-52 where it also references the stall speed being 2600-2900 rpm.

Re: Just had the stall raised to 2700......
Unlikely that you could change the stall speed of an oem torque convertor EASILY without destroying the unit......the new designed DUAL lockup clutches for the 5AT are pretty radical also. Easy to swap old 4 speed AT for higher stall speed smaller diameter units but the 5 speed is a different animal.
I would investigate exactly what was purported to have been done? You would have to remove the tranny, cut the TC open, modify all the turbine fin ANGLES, rebalance, reweld, and reinstall the tranny ~~ $1,000-$1,500+.
The V6 5AT already has a different TC than the V8 5AT, due to the 15% higher cruise rpm vs. speed of the V6.
Will do more research.
