stock alarm ruin hids??

you know how you're not supposed to turn the headlights on off on off quickly because the owners manual states it'll burn out faster? well with the stock alarm the HID's turn off and on, off and on pretty quick so wouldn't that also ruin it? i'm thinking of installing a shock sensor with the stock alarm. I don't know whether i should do it now because of the i'm not sure if it will affect the HID's life

Well, i'm pretty sure over time the bulbs will blow. But I do have a question...how often does your stock alarm go off? I don't think i've seen mine go off since i've owned the car. And wouldn't installing a shock sensor made the alarm more prone to go off?

Does this occur when the headlights are left on Auto? I haven't seen this myself. I don't use the auto function bcause I park in a parking structure at work and it will turn on my headlights each time I enter it. With the headlight switch in the off position, only the parking lights should flash.

Re: stock alarm ruin hids??

that's why i'm kinda hesitant to installing a shock sensor because of the headlights flashing on and off even with the headlight switch to off

that's the DIY.. anyways since infiniti was dumb and made the access to the HID's not under the hood, i wanted something that would actually somewhat scare off theives

Re: stock alarm ruin hids??

On my '03 Coupe, (with no bulb changes), my lower headlight bulbs flash when the alarm sounds, which are my fogs. The upper lights (HID's) do not flash.
----------
Further to that, to prevent any damage or unecessary useage on my HID's, I turn on my parking lights first b4 starting the car, to prevent the HID's from flashing on since the first click on the headlight switch is headlights, and the headlights don't turn on without the ignition being on.

As many have said, the arrangement on the headlight switch could have been thought out a little better.

Re: stock alarm ruin hids??

Accordfreak are you sure your HIDs are blinking? I can swear that the HIDs don't blink. Sorry, but I can't check my car because it's in the shop.

Read that thing about the HID's too, so I use my parking only when I go through the short tunnels we have (to make sure someone sees me rather than me actually needing light).

Re: stock alarm ruin hids??

I just went outside and triggered the panic function and the HID's, and fog lights both blinked with the horn. This is interesting. I gotta wonder if the alarm unit is not integrated with the lighting relay system or not. If it's not then there would be separate leads either connecting to the relay or to the lighting wiring itself. Either way if this is the case finding the appropriate wire and clipping it would disable the HID flashing. If it is integrated, we are probably SOL.

Anyone have the wiring diagram?

Ya know, there is a reason no factory security system has a shock sensor.

NO SHOCK SENSOR HAS EVER STOPPED A CAR FROM BEING BROKEN INTO OR STOLEN!!!!!

All a shock sensor does is pias off your neighbors! Personally, I think they should be illegal!!! In fact, I used to write tickets for idiots whose alarms would go off every time a car drove past.

But, ya wanna waste your money and pizz off your friends, go for it.

Re: stock alarm ruin hids??

No alarm can truly stop a thief as well. But what all these things do is draw attention. Most car thiefs aren't looking for a specific car. They look for opportunities. Given 2 identical cars, one with an alarm and one without, they will likely take the one without an alarm. It draws less attention to themselves. I'm not too worried about the G being stolen myself. The Transponder Key should prevent all but the most technically advanced thief. And if they go through the trouble of towing the car, then I guess they really want the car.
As far as shock sensors go, it's one more thing to help draw attention. I will admit there are many cars that do not have them adjusted properly. They typical impact needed to break a window is fairly strong(short of using a piece of ceramic from a spark plug). Shock sensors can help draw attention to accidents that occur while your car is parked. This happened to me with my last car and the alarm did go off, but unfortunately noone was around to see who hit the car.

well the stock alarm wont go off if your windows get busted or someone hits your car. I think the only thing that sets it off is if you open the door or hood. So if your car gets towed by a thief you won't hear it. My shock sensor never goes off for no reason.
