Some sort of switch for Exhaust ???

first off i would like to apologize for not being mechanically inclined when it comes to these sorts of things so i hope this question doesnt sound too rediculous lol. But i hear that there is a G in my area in which the guy has some sort of switch under his dash that makes the car EXTREMELY loud. The car almost sounds factory when the switch is off, and then once he switches it over, the car sounds insane. Does anyone know what this is? I've heard about people having similar things to this and it pertained to them havin open headers somehow? Can this b narrowed down to something as simple as a switch, so that ur able to go back and forth as u please?

It's possible, idk how. The 3000GT VR-4 has the same switch, stock. It has a touring and sport(I think those are the names) and on one, the engine is nice and quiet, the turbos don't spool as hard, and the exhaust is a lot less loud. Turn on Sport and the exhaust opens up and the car GOES.

Not too sure how. Maybe ask on the 3000GT forums?

Yea, the 3000GT VR4 had a "tunable exhaust", which would be something like this -

APEXi Exhaust Control Valve

It'd be pretty much the same thing, only it'll be installed in the main piping and it'd work like a controllable silencer.

SoCalTed had 'em... he doesnt post out here anymore, but you can try to find old threads of his... he had some problems with leak I think... search threads for exhaust cut-outs and SoCalTed - you should be able to find something...
