okay so recently when I've been taking turns fast my oil pressure light has been lighting up. when i complete the turn, the light turns off again. still, its weird that this is happening when its never happened before. anyone know why this is happening or had this happen to them?

 

Be sure to put an accurate gauge on engine as the light means less than 3 psi unless the sensor wire is intermitent.
Oil starvation on takes seconds to do it's destructive work.

 

I'd take it somewhere asap to get it checked out. With that light on it could spell disaster.

 

My guess - it means you don't check your oil and it's so low it already damaged your engine. When the light comes on, the damage is already done.

^ yup that is what I was thinking, he probally has and OC motor and does not check the oil level, and when taking the turns he is tripping the sensor...

nah im not under warranty anymore, i have like 55k miles. thing is though i just changed my oil (synthetic) around 4k miles ago and ive checked my oil 5 times in the past few days to see if its my oil level but it all looks good. i know what the light is there for, and if it was on all the time i wouldnt be driving it, but the thing is that it only comes on around hard curves.

 

To start, I would take a look at the oil pressure sensor and make sure it isn't leaking and/or damaged. Make sure the wires are all in good shape. Maybe try moving the wires around a little while the engine is idling, and see if the light flashes. If all is ok, remove the oil pressure sensor and in its place screw in a pressure gauge. You can buy one through any good auto parts store. They come with all different kinds of adapters so you can screw it in. Then follow the FSM procedure for testing oil pressure. There is a reading you must check at idle, and another reading you must check at 2100 rpm (that's if my memory serves me correct). It's very easy to do and I would highly recommend checking especially if you are out of warranty..

 

The only way I can see, both by logic and experience, the pressure dropping when turning is if the oil is low. Add a half quart and see if it goes away.

 

I know this is an old post, but I'm trying to find out if the oil light is supposed to come on when I turn on the ignition or not. At the moment it's not. Just bought the car with a seized engine and replaced it, but not seeing the oil light at all. Not even sure where it is exactly since I've never seen it light up

 

Yes, with the engine not running turn the key to the ON position and the dash will do a lamp test. This is the same on almost every single vehicle but some of the newer cars that have full LCD screens don't actually have idiot lights so those are pretty much the only exception.

That's what i thought too. Mine is a 07 sedan with the keyless ignition and the gauge cluster is different, but I'm sure it is supposed to have one. Not seeing it though

 

Ok I didn't know which platform so I posted a pic of a DE motor. Here's what your HR motor should look like for a split second right after you push the ignition button.

You might have a bad instrument cluster, or someone may have intentionally damaged the board because an oil light on the HR engine usually means the galley gaskets are leaking which is a somewhat common and very expensive repair. The previous seller may have been trying to hide the galley gasket problem by just breaking the oil pressure light.
