I'm having a similar problem with gears 1-4 working but 5 feeling like butter.

I drained/filled my trans fluid about 2 months before and added a plenum spacer about 2 weeks before it started. I'm going to remove the spacer to see if that changes anything.

Can any one explain how an air leak is related to shifting? The spacer is the first mod I've ever done and just trying to learn how it all is connected. Thanks for the info.

Mine ended up being the computer... My earlier post says, "transmission computer" so I don't know if I came up with that or if that's what they really told me. But after they kept putting in new transmissions and burning them up everytime, they replaced the computer and it works... better. lol

I mean, I've been driving it for a year now after the fact and it still isn't 100%. I think once you get major work done like that it's never 100% again.

Good luck to ya.

Sorry to hear that about your transmission, but thanks for the info.

I'm going to remove my spacer and reset ECU. I'm putting reflash/replace transmission computer next on the list.

The spacer wouldnt be affecting your transmission. Leave it on.

From what I can make of the service manual, it is most likely the Turbine Revolution sensor 1 has failed (which can be replaced without removing the whole transmission) or a grounded or failed Transmission computer (TCM ~$50-100 used) or connector. Thanks again for the pointer on where to look. I'll report back my progress.

Spacer unrelated. If this issue followed a fluid drain/fill, it is possible you left the ATF fluid low (it's not easy to read the dipstick correctly unless you have an ATF temp gauge) which can burn out the clutch packs. IPT and GTM offer rebuilds to handle more power - just fyi (vs a similar priced standard rebuild).

Had kind of the oposite problem with my 05 g35x... had vdc off, made a quick turn around, and another vehicle came around the corner quick, so i hammered down, car spun a bit (partially snow covered road).. once it shifted out of 1st, nothing .. just neutral... slowed down a bit, tried again, same thing.. manual mode allowed me to for it into second, tried drive again. neutral... pulled over and restarted car.. problem went away, but it will do the same thing if you spin significantly in 1st... cruise set light flashed for the rest of the trip, but next trip everything was back to normal

have anyone try this method? i have the same issue, and i talked to a local transmission guy and told me that to replace the sensor need a lot of work to dig inside the transmission, cost around 2k. are there any other solution beside taking the transmission apart?

I'm pretty sure this was close to the cause. The 5th clutch packs is finished, but the fluid was read by the the techs to be OK. I took care to fill with the same amount I drained, but possibly made a mistake with the Liters/quarts. Impossible to tell at this point what was the cause. It could have been a coincidence or my fault, but I'll blame myself either way.

Thanks for the rebuild tip.

Seems a bit overpriced. You don't have to remove the whole tranny to replace the sensors, on the older models at least. They are bolted into the underside of the tranny. You'd need a manual, gasket, and new set to do it yourself. Not for novices, but not overly complicated. Good luck.
